"My father's primary health team failed to diagnose him after over an entire year! The VCU Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Center (PMDC) provided my family with clarity and closure with a diagnosis from thorough assessment and evaluation. My family and I went through a very hard emotional rollercoaster and stress with the ups and downs of not knowing what my father had, especially during urgent emergencies. It was beyond frustrating and scary. The turning point was when Dr.Cameron Miller-Patterson, MD at the VCU PMDC was the first to ever provide us with a diagnosis after multiple neurologists and doctors failed to do so at my father's previous primary healthcare. Dr.Miller helped our family with the next steps to confirm the diagnosis and medication suggestions to treat my father. He is very knowledgeable, kind, and patient while answering many of my questions. Dr. Sarah K. Lageman, Ph.D., ABPP-CN helped to confirm the diagnosis after a 4-hour assessment. Dr.Lageman was professional and empathetic. She provided snacks and breaks for my dad when he was getting tired. Dr.Lageman was also patient with my ton of questions and even helped our family with living care suggestions for my dad based on his condition. The VCU PMDC goes above and beyond to make accurate diagnosis and provide guidance for medicine, treatment, and living suggestions. Overall, I recommend The VCU Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Center (PMDC) to other families that need direction and closure based on the positive experience I had when caring for my dad. "You can never get an appointment within a reasonable time frame, and the people who do the scheduling are in some call center somewhere with little concern or understanding of why you may be calling. It may as well be a Walmart call center. No concern for non-emergency though urgent calls -- you simply can't reach anyone on the clinical staff no matter what your reason. I would try to find a practice that isn't part of a giant operation like VCUHealth. At least then you would have a chance at a callback or -- the horrors! -- an actual phone call."
