"An excellent eye doctor. I have been consistently pleased with this entire practice. The staff is pleasant and helpful. The doctor is outstanding. He handled my cataract surgery several years ago which was very successful. I have referred friends to him, as he was referred to me. If you are looking for good eye care, I highly recommend this practice."
"I am writing to share my candid feedback regarding my experience as an employee at Schefkind Eye Care. While I have immense respect and fondness for my colleagues, I feel compelled to express some serious concerns about the overall management and operational practices of the company. The camaraderie and support among my colleagues made for a positive work environment, and they truly are some of the most remarkable individuals I have had the privilege to work with. However, it is my belief that the company's management falls significantly short in several critical areas. One of the most pressing issues is the compensation and workload distribution for front desk staff. The team is tasked with handling a multitude of responsibilities, including but not limited to faxing, emails, phone calls, appointment scheduling, patient callbacks, and surgical payment processing. This is carried out while earning what can only be described as a minimum sustenance in today's economic climate. Given that the front desk team serves as the backbone of the office, their compensation should reflect their pivotal role. Regrettably, the management, particularly the manager Sala, appears to be largely uninvolved in these day-to-day activities. Sala seldom assists in answering calls, scheduling, or even basic check-in and check-out procedures. Her consistent tardiness and early departures, coupled with an inconsistent work schedule, further compound the challenges faced by the team. The office's workload is overwhelming and staffing levels are insufficient to meet the demands. The practice handles an exceptionally high volume of patients, often exceeding 60 on Schefkind days. Unfortunately, the necessary infrastructure and procedures to efficiently manage this influx appear to be lacking. Additionally, it is disconcerting to note that the office has recently faced a serious issue with bed bugs. Astonishingly, the practice remained open for an extended period after the initial incident, with only a single treatment attempted. This approach did not adequately address the issue and subsequently led to a further infestation. The gravity of the situation was underscored when an employee was bitten by a bed bug while seated in an office chair. Instead of addressing this with due urgency, the employee's concerns were dismissed and instead told to take a picture, when evidence of the problem has previously occurred. It was only after the discovery of another bed bug in the back exam rooms that the practice was closed down. Unfortunately, this action may have come too late, and the road to resolving the infestation will now be even more arduous. As the practice appears primarily focused on revenue generation and patient volume, there is legitimate concern that the necessary steps may not be taken before reopening. In light of these circumstances, I implore you to exercise caution when considering employment with Schefkind Eye Care or booking an appointment with them. There are practices elsewhere that are managed more effectively and prioritize the well-being and safety of their employees and clientele. Warm regards, Ex-former Employee"
"On September 12th I booked an appointment with this Eye Doctor. I provided my insurance information, including my member ID, and asked them specifically if they took my insurance. Unfortunately, upon arrival, they informed me that they did not take my insurance. So what changed?"
"I made an appointment online and I told them in details about my insurance and they accept it. Even this morning they sent me reminders by text message . When I went there the front desk lady ask me my insurance cared I handed to her and right away she said oh sorry we don’t take this. Is this acceptable? Why not they tell me from the beginning. The appointment I made was with dr. Mark Schefkind. It’s really sadden. Unprofessional."
"Busy but efficient practice with friendly, kind, attentive help from all (OK, the intake front desk person could be a little less terse- but I've worked a job like that so I get it.) I've been to see Dr. Schefkind before and I find him to be a knowledgeable, approachable, personable professional. He is efficient but doesn't make you feel like he is rushing you out - carefully considers questions. I didn't have any surgical procedures so I can't comment on that. Highly recommend! PS: easy, free outdoor parking - Alexandria"
