SpringHill Suites by Marriott Chesapeake Greenbrier

"This shouldn't even be a Marriott property. I've never written a review before I left a hotel, but the experience here required it. So much is wrong with this place. On check-in, we were told that none of their elevators worked. Understandable that one might break, but both? No worries, we were placed on the ground floor. We get into the room and its almost 80 degrees. I go to the front desk after trying to get the AC to work for 15 minute's. They send a maintenance person who checks things out and says he will replace the filter. He comes back with an almost see through "filter" and replaces and exact copy of what he's replacing. Needless to say, it did nothing. I ended up opening the window since it's 36 degrees outside which finally cooled down the room. Overall a 0 out of 5, but it makes you give one star. I've stayed in Marriott's more than 400 nights in the past few years, and this stay was completely unacceptable. Try another hotel nearby. Also to note, I should have looked at more reviews before booking this. A lot of the time I use points for rooms because I stay at Marriotts so often. That will likely change. This was so unacceptable. I see now that the "owner" replies to a lot of other reviews saying they will address the concerns, but they clearly don't since the same things are said for YEARS without change!"

"Roasting hot rooms and dingy furnishings. We checked in and room temp was 79. We turned on the AC and left for dinner. Came back and it was still 79! The manager, Ms. Crystal, was very understanding and helpful. She moved us to a cooler room. Better but really had no control over temperature. It was just after a holiday so there were not many cleaned rooms available. The next morning, they sent a building engineer who was able to turn the air up slightly. It's an older building with a boiler type system, with low airflow and slow to adjust. (The weather in Chesapeake had been consistently mild, 60s day and 50s at night. There wasn't a sudden change in conditions.) The thermostat is actually set to central control. You can press the buttons but it doesn't make a difference. The hotel is not very well maintained. Only one working elevator for 5 floors. Stains on carpet and furniture. Missing towels. King rooms only have a bedside table on one side and no outlets besides USB plugs. If you use a CPAP, you're out of luck. Breakfast is included in the morning. A range of standard offerings like eggs, toast, oatmeal. It's fine. Neatly stocked with plenty of fresh brewed coffee."

"We spent two nights at this hotel on 11/19/23 and 11/20/23. It was an excellent stay. The rooms were large enough, perfectly clean and well furnished. The staff was welcoming and professional, and the breakfast was way more than adequate. The breakfast area was well furnished and maintained. Altogether this hotel was a much better value for what it provides than any other we have utilized in our recent travels."

"Pros: Nice hotel inside and outside. Staff was very nice and friendly. Breakfast was not bad. Cons: Air conditioning SUCKS. Checked into room and the a/c was set at 65 but room temperature was 72. Talked to front desk and was told that someone would look into. Room never cooled down below 71 degrees. 3 days later room temperature climbed up to 76 degrees. Front desk brought a portable a/c to room which didn't do a thing to cool down. Went back to front desk and asked to be moved to another room. I was informed that multiple rooms had problems with a/c. Reservations were made in advance for a double queen size suite in which we stayed in for 3 nights. Our room was downgraded to a regular double bed suite. Shower water is Luke warm only! The same results with water on floors 5 and 3. My family stay here was not pleasant and we will not stay at this hotel again."
