"If you’re looking for a clean, comfortable safe, I would not recommend this place definitely needs to be upgraded and organized with better management."
"I was traveling halfway across the country when I found myself just outside of Covington, VA, with car problems. I was traveling with pets, so my options were limited. I found M Star. The positive part first - the desk staff. I checked in at Magnuson Hotel (where you have to check in for M Star), and the staff were super friendly and helpful. One of the front desk staff even helped me with my car problem and provided information on where to take it in the morning. He offered the possibility of a late check-out while my car was getting fixed. The person-to-person interaction at check-in was great (I'd give that 5 stars). The not-so-great part...the room. I first got a key for a room that was literally empty - it was under construction, so there was no furniture, no carpet. I called Magnuson to ask the staff for a different room. They brought me a new room key to a room with furniture. I don't require a fancy place to stay, and I know my options are limited when traveling with pets. The room was run-down (like an old motel not yet renovated) which is okay - it is what it is. However, this room had not been vacuumed, there was no soap (no shampoo either, but I would have at least expected soap), the tub faucet dripped and the shower handles felt flimsy, the towels and sheets were worn/frayed, there was an odor (old cigarette smoke from years past and mildew), etc. My guess is this room had not been occupied in a while because the water came out of the faucets discolored, but then cleared up after running a while. The next day, I did call to say I had checked out of my room. I expressed some of my concerns about the room quality. I was offered coupons next time I was in the area."
"I am really confused by how this hotel treats their customer. You have to call a different hotel for help checking in, booking and if there is a problem. I found a FLEA in my room and couldn't get a refund because the manager told me I was lying! I have stayed in another hotel in the same area and dont recommend either one even as a last resort.."
"M Star Hotel isn't for folks looking for a luxuirous spa visit with your family. To be fair, we were looking last minute and we weren't seeking luxury. M Star came through as an eleventh-hour place to lie our heads that would allow dogs. That said, there were some notable problems to contend with. At night (and perhaps during the day), the desk is not staffed by an in-person human. Rather, there is a phone number to call so you can chat with a person staffing the desk at the Magnuson Hotel just up the road. To get our room key, we had to hop back in the car and go to the front desk at that hotel. The hotel clerk said that they'll be setting up video-conferencing with the M Star desk in the near future. When we got into the room, there were some obvious maintenance issues. The headboard on one of the two beds had fallen behind the bed and wasn't repaired. The toilet seat was not attached to the toilet. The cold shower handle was broken, and turning on the cold water required some handywork. The wifi also didn't work. That was a challenge for us because we also didn't have strong enough cell signal to hotspot with our phones. We called the front desk (at the Magnuson) and the attendant said he would reset the wifi, but it still didn't work. We called again, and he said he'd put in a ticket for it to be repaired the next afternoon. Hopefully helpful for the next patrons. Otherwise, the room was generally clean and comfortable, but it wasn't exactly well-appointed. Paintings hung at strange angles. Half a roll of toilet paper. In the end, it was sufficient for two grown-ups and a dog, but I wouldn't recommend it for a family or for folks who are put off by less-than-polished hotels."
"This place is terrible. The outlets by the bed didn't work. The heater smelled like it was burning. The beds were terrible, you could feel the springs. The smoke detectors were off the wall. We switched rooms and the next one had the same issues. The fire extinguisher had not been inspected in 2 years. Not recommended Addendum : my dad finally spoke with the manager and he threatened him. He said my dad was now on a do not rent to list. I didn't know the hotel industry had mob connections like that. It was very silly. Please, don't stay here, there is a reason it was the only place wirh availability in a 20 mile radius."
