Reviews of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital
"My Father Charles Fazio, who I’m sure you are very fond of, was admitted on 1/6/24. He was diagnosed with having a stroke. You then DISCHARGED HIM 3 DAYS LATER on 1/9/24. You sent him home with NO PLAN OF CARE KNOWING he had NO ONE at home to take care of him and that he lives BY HIMSELF. The stroke has affected his reasoning, thinking & memory very badly. Home health WAS NOT SETUP upon his discharge. Is this how you treat your stroke patients? He then was re-admitted on 1/10/24 BECAUSE YOU FAILED AND NEGLECTED HIM. Upon his re-admission on 1/10 his sugars got as low as 40 and he WAS UNABLE TO GIVE HIMSELF INSULIN SO HE WENT WITHOUT. If a patient is MENTALLY unable to take care of themselves they are also PHYSICALLY unable to take care of themselves. You told me he MET PT & OT requirements THEREFORE he was sent home THREE DAYS AFTER A STROKE & the only thing he was eligible for was HOME HEALTH which was not readily available to him upon his discharge & HAD TO BE SCHEDULED. I live in LA. The case managers, Doctors and nurses there said he was in the hospital “FOR NO MEDICAL REASON.” Someone please explain that to me. Is a stroke, which also was later diagnosed as a thrombotic stroke, not a medical reason to be admitted?? We found out he had a thrombotic stroke from his pcp Dr. Griffin, NOT FROM THE HOSPITAL. Since when do you send a patient who has had a MAJOR STROKE home?!? The medical system at this particular hospital has failed my Father terribly and I want the world to see. He is now in LA at a rehabilitation hospital finally getting the care he needs, IM HIS ADVOCATE. My Father may not have been the easiest patient and may have been unruly and belligerent and hard to deal with but aren’t you TRAINED TO HELP THOSE PATIENTS TOO?? ESPECIALLY IF THEY HAD A MAJOR STROKE?!?! Shame on you for your poor methods of care. I wouldn’t recommend this hospital to my worst enemy. If you want to die, go here as I’m sure they would let you. I had to give one star to post this but let it be known it would be no stars."
"My experience at this hospital was horrifying, I came in after being in a car accident. My belongings were removed by staff.I asked them to give me my purse so I could put my earrings away really quick, the staff insisted that they would put it away for me. I asked the staff to please bring my purse closer to me. They refused. Felt like they were blocking my view while they were in my purse. After I went for X-rays I looked in my purse, and my money was gone! I called spoke to a patient advocate. The advocate said they were reviewing the tapes. The Advocate said to me that they would be cooperative with the police if I want to file charges. The police detective stopped by to investigate the incident but. The hospital erasefootage after 30 days. Someone please contact me. Im furious! You will not get away with taking my money."
"Never thought I’d write a review on a hospital, but this place is absolutely horrendous when it comes to a loved one’s passing. Zero communication and zero compassion. They are not clear on their polices and do not return phone calls and are just plain rude (not all but the ones that have any “power”). Should not take 2 days worth of unanswered phone calls and finally just showing up and sitting around for 2 hours to get an answer. I get people are busy, but if you’re so busy why not save yourself the extra work and just return phone calls? Bed side manner doesn’t end when the patient dies!!! It’s not that hard to communicate and be kind!"
"Came in 11/7 great staff in emergency room the two rices and alley were amazing. Second night omg I can’t handle the stupidity of constantly being asked to know who I am I already got a pass twice I’m literally like r you kidding. I don’t feel safe here at this hospital. They do not not know how to properly communicate or make the changes to keep patients safe. Honestly they need new staff and new policies to keep everyone in check Norfolk is unsafe area I do not recommend this hospital it takes them way to long to help patients and honestly if your life depended upon it you wouldn’t survive because they are to focused on a circus with other patients. Of all places I thought they stopped restraining people I’m not happy at all with this situation I am gonna make sure people don’t get hurt by these security or staff members. If you have patients who are not safe than why do you have them in a hospital in the same area. I cannot believe the unprofessional attitude and the way they talk to you I’ve been doing this way to long I know how things work. I don’t recommend Norfolk hospital unless your bored and have nothing to do because it takes them forever. In all my years even on the east coast takes them a little over 28 hrs to find a bed. Virginia is a joke they are not equipped to handle situations and they have no compassion"
"Surgeon Dr Mary Beth Hughes was awesome and her and her team attended to me very well and her Nurse and Medical assistant Kayla shout out. But also to My Endocrinologist EVMS Dr Okigbo who referred me to Dr Hughes.. Thank youll for making me feel informed and relaxed during my surgery at Sentara Norfolk General... the Nurses.. Care Partners..and on call doctors were above and beyond during their care for me... one nurse even made sure doing my walks I got a great view of the sunset from my room...and what view is very scenic ...food was also good and as large as their campus is lots of guides to help you around.."
