"The picture supplied on the website don't show how close the cabins are together. Everyone was very respectful and quiet and there was no real issue, it was just a bit disappointing. My reservation also said it would include firewood supplied for the fire pit but there was none at our cabin and the store had already closed by sundown. The view was very nice and it was wonderful to look up at the stars out away from all the city lights. The communal bathroom for the hikers cabin and tent camping was clean and well maintained."
"The cabins are very rustic. We put an effort to not break anything in them. Beds are spring ones, although my back was fine in the morning. I was glad to have a hot shower! We were woken up by a mouse eating our thrash (inside the cabin), but scared it enough to not bother for the rest of the night. Overall, next time I'd rather stay somewhere outside of Shenandoah or pay more for other lodging."
"Would have been a great experience except a restless and noisy mouse kept us most of the night and finally drove us from the room. In addition, on a hot muggy night, the ceiling fan was broken. A hot muggy night with no air circulation and a restless noisy mouse is a miserable combination."
"The hiker's cabin is an amazing place to stay for thru-hikers and people looking for a simpler night in the magnificent wilderness of Shenandoah National Park. Easy access to water, trash, and a bear bin make life extremely easy. The woodfire stove and twin bunk beds make for a comfortable and simple stay. It is hard to think of better value than what you get here. The only criticism I have is that there are not more of these for AT hikers. Otherwise, it is perfect! 5 Stars!"
"It’s really convenient to stay overnight just a few hundred yards off the skyline. Don’t need to go out the park to find a lodging place. Other lodging places inside the park are a lot more expensive. The cabins don’t look like much from the outside; but the inside looks quite descent for an old cabin. The shower is good. The bed is comfortable. They do have a k-cup coffee machine with a few coffee pods supplied. Some people can’t start the day without coffee. So, even though no breakfast is offered, at least, there is coffee. There is an access to the Appalachian trail behind the cabins. But, the access point is by the campsite. So you have to walk past the cabins towards campsite. At the northern side of the campsite, you see an access point to the trail. This place is so close to the Point Overlook where you can wait to see the sun set. Even walk down a few hundred feet to the point of big rocks. And it’s close to the Bear Fence trail. The One big drawback is that the cabins have thin walls. You can hear the people in the next attached cabin talking, coughing."
