Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters Emergency Room

"Terrible. After waiting 2 hours to get seen, we said we are leaving. After that they kept telling us 15 minutes you'll see the Dr. 4 hours and no one. Waited in the exam room for an hour. Still no one. Then they told us we aren't in the actual emergency room side. We're in the non emergency. They should tell you when you check in. So you can decide how long you are willing to wait. All they want is money"

"I’m so fed up with every CHKD pediatrician office and now the ER. Since we have walked in I’ve been feeling so outraged at the lack of professionalism and empathy. As soon as I walk into the ER while I’m pushing my 19 month old in her stroller the security guard says “pretty cold outside mom, no jacket!?” 1. She had a jacket on, 2. She had a very fluffy warm jacket she was holding, and the reason she was holding it and not wearing it is because she screams and absolutely hates when she has to wear this jacket. Furthermore, we left the house in a rush considering the very concerning rash my daughter woke up with all over her body. As a security guard who works in the ER department working the door, he had no right to ridicule me or to offer his unsolicited opinion on what my daughter should or shouldn’t have on. ESPECIALLY, since we left the house so abruptly. Then i get to the check in desk and the man greeting us i don’t think looked up at me once or even offered a kind smile or any type of comfort. Then we get called to triage, that nurse was the most rude, uncaring person I had come in contact with since my daughter has been born. She did her job as far as taking her vitals and typing on the computer but also never showed any concern or even a “hope she’s ok”. When we were all done with triage she told us to go in the waiting room and upon leaving, I dropped her diaper bag and a lot of things had fallen out. Everyone knows when you have a small child the amount of stuff you need to bring with you can be a lot to handle. Anyway, she didn’t even try to help me, acknowledge i was struggling with everything that had fallen, didn’t try to move the stroller to help me reach the things that slid Under it, or even say “you need some help”, she just sat there and watched me gather my things while I was holding my toddler, with a look of annoyance on her face. The complete lack of professionalism and care chkd has offered me is concerning and borderline disrespectful. These are our children coming in to get treatment! Even if it was a regular visit for myself or another adult, I would still be upset but not how I am now, because when you’re the person providing care for my child I expect a lot more. They need to seriously do better. It’s a paycheck to these people, nothing more, nothing less."

"After reading the bad reviews, I was hesitant to go here. But per my daughters pediatrician it was a must. We arrived (possible appendicitis) and were checked in immediately. Had about a 30 minute wait in the main lobby and then we were checked into triage and taken to a room. The wait times for lab, ultrasound, discharge etc. were typical for an ER. The doctors and nurses were absolutely wonderful and very patient with my daughter. Would definitely recommend."

"I recently had an unfortunate experience at the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters Emergency Room. While the nurses were commendable for their dedication and care, I cannot overlook the glaring issues with communication. From the moment we arrived, there was a lack of clear information about the waiting times and the process. It felt like we were left in the dark, causing unnecessary stress and anxiety for both the child and the family. Attempts to seek updates from the staff were met with vague responses or, in some cases, brushed aside entirely. This created a frustrating environment where we felt ignored and undervalued as patients. Additionally, the overall atmosphere seemed disorganized, with little effort made to streamline the intake process. It was disheartening to witness such a crucial aspect of healthcare delivery be mishandled. While I appreciate the hardworking nurses who were doing their best in a challenging environment, the lack of effective communication severely impacted our experience. It’s disheartening to see a hospital with such a strong reputation fall short in such a crucial area."

"Definitely not here at CHKD emergency room lobby and I've been here for 4 hours and the lobby has not been seen or touched up I asked registration and security company called the registration company to clean loddy I was told that they were shorthanded and in between shifts there's no excuse the lobby is so dirty I've been here still waiting for them to do something. Security approached me because I was taking picture of the filthiness and told me that wasn't allowed do to the kids Face was showing. So I'm only going to upload a couple."
