Abingdon Muster Grounds
About the Business
Located at 1780 Muster Place in Abingdon, Virginia, the Abingdon Muster Grounds is a historic tourist attraction that pays tribute to the 400 men from Washington County who gathered here in 1780 in response to the call to arms. Led by Colonel William Campbell, these men marched south to join other Patriot militia at Fort Watauga. The original muster ground, known as Craig's Meadow, is now preserved as a remnant field where visitors can learn about this pivotal moment in American history.
The W. Blair Keller, Jr. Interpretive Center at the Abingdon Muster Grounds offers a deeper insight into the events that unfolded here, while a certified section of the OVNHT trail provides a scenic 0.6-mile walk for visitors. Parking, restrooms, and picnic tables are available for convenience.
The Keller Interpretive Center is open daily from 9am to 5pm, while the muster grounds and trail are accessible from sunrise to sunset. Whether you're a history enthusiast or just looking for a peaceful outdoor experience, the Abingdon Muster Grounds offers a unique glimpse into the past and the brave men who fought for freedom.

Reviews
"This is historically interesting but would be more so, when there is no reenactment or event, if they had a muster tent set up to view. It wasn't open without an event or on a Sunday."
"It's a nice little park to visit with a good little museum. The staff was very very knowledgeable and gave a good lecture on the battle and local history overall. There were some re actors which was very neat."
"If you're in the area and into learning great history, stop by here. The interpretive center is small but holds a great deal of information. If you have time, have a talk with Micheal, he is a walking encyclopedia of American War history."
"A very small visitor center with TONS of information and the most knowledgeable gentleman manning the desk. We always look for a location of historic significance to add to any trip, and this was worth the stop. We spent about an hour looking at the displays. There is a lot of related history in the area, and the stop here helped tie it together."
"The guy was fun to talk to and full of knowledge. Neat little place to stop."
