"Came here only 2 times my senior year in high school. Only came to work out with a friend with a membership, and to see if I liked the gym. First time signed a waiver and left $15 for a one day pass. The next time, I couldn’t find any waivers to sign, but left money anyways. Mid workout, the owner came over and asked if I had a membership, I said “no I just did a one day pass and paid already” and he replied “a day pass doesn’t interest me, I want you to get a membership” and got all a$$ chapped. Clearly they just want your money coming in and that’s it. They don’t care about you."
"A common theme of conversation at Exalt Gym is Clay's inadequacies as a gym owner, the constant additional hidden fees, unwarranted surcharges, and the lack of ability to invest in equipment for his existing gyms. If I were you, I would find a different gym. The travel time or cost would be significantly worth it. Here is my story and reasons why you should invest your effort, money, and time at another gym. Clay (owner) told Angie (manager) to cancel my membership because he saw me "abusing the weights" when the only thing I abuse inside of the gym is my body. If Clay noticed me "abusing" weights..., why would he have not said something to me in person when he saw me "abusing" the weights? First, I do not abuse the weights, nor have I ever abused the weights. I have always treated the equipment as my own and better than, if not most other members. Second, unlike 90% of the members and even the owner Clay, I wipe down (clean) the equipment before and after using it. Third, I rerack my free weights and weighted plates and make sure that the weighted plates are evenly distributed throughout the plate-weighted machines when reracking. To put it in perspective, in theory, if I were, in fact, "abusing" the weights while doing hamstring curls or leg presses on the sled, why would Clay (owner) not engage with me on the issue and have an open-minded conversation? He has my phone number and could have called me rather than having Angie (manager) do his bewildering, ill-elicited dirty work. It is incomprehensible how one could "abuse" a plate-loaded hamstring curl machine or leg press, no different than Clay himself; I thought this was Exalt Gym, not Planet Fitness... If I were a bodybuilder or powerlifter, I would find another gym to lift in, or you will have your membership unjustifiably terminated for "abusing" weights. It is illogical to revoke someone's gym membership for theoretically "abusing" weights without any fair warning or civil conversation. I came to the gym to tune out and work out. As an individual hyperaware of his surroundings and others within my environment, I would highly recommend that females of all ages, shapes, and sizes find another gym to work out. The gym should be a haven for females to work out without having an unprovoked conversation, unbecoming gestures, and unnecessary and inappropriate eyes trespassing their divine femininity, and Exalt gym is certainly not that place for women. To everyone else, more than half the treadmills do not work, and the ones that do work, the belt sticks when you put down your foot, which is a safety hazard that leads to injury. The bathroom is unisex, and there is always urine on the floor or toilet seat. People leave equipment where it does not belong and generally in the way—mats on the floor—benches spread sporadically. Every time I wipe down one of the two mats (there is only a single mat unripped), a white paper towel turns brown. Clay has the music blasting 85% of the time, so loud that you will still hear it with your headphones on full blast. In reality, Clay should cancel his own membership for "abusing" the weights and ears of the patrons while grunting like a Rhino giving birth to Jim Carrey. I would advise, if applicable, any investors or shareholders to pull their investments for Clay's vision of being the best gym in Eastern Tennessee. Although admirable, it is unattainable with his current attitude, behavior, and business model. For all current and prospective members, several gyms surrounding Kingsport and Piney Flats are significantly better than Exalt Gym could ever become."
"This is a great gym and Clay really takes care of out of town guests. The gym is outstanding, clean and full of great equipment. Some old-school stuff, some hardcore stuff and great for all levels. Definitely my gym of choice anytime I'm in Bristol."
"Great equipment, great atmosphere, very clean, has wifi, tv monitors near cardio, changing rooms, 911 necklaces if your working out alone, another smaller builder across the street, 24 hour, and really you just can't ask for much more. Great gym. This is my first week going and I could not be more impressed. Absolutely great."
