"I have been a customer of Lombardy Market for 13 years and have always had good experiences--until a few weeks ago. Here's what happened: I went into the market and the music was blaring loudly. It wouldn't have bothered me so much except that Chuck, who was at the register, was talking to a customer and not checking her out. I became impatient with the wait and said, "If you're going to be much longer, could you turn the music down? It's too loud." He replied: "It's not too loud--you're too old!" and returned to talking to the customer. Before he checked me out he turned the music down and said sarcastically, "Is that soft enough for you?" I complained to R.E. the previous owner, who was extremely apologetic and said that there is never an excuse for rudeness and that he would have his son, John, who is now the owner, talk to Chuck about it. Today, when I went in, I asked John if his dad had spoken to him about the situation. He said, "Yeah--but I checked with the customer and she said that the music wasn't that loud." I asked him if he knew about the comment about my age. He said, "Yeah, I checked, and I was told that the music wasn't too loud." It seems that he entirely missed the point of the ageist remark, so I decided that I wouldn't pursue it. But Lombardy has lost one loyal family as a result."

"Absolutely the best little market in Richmond to get everything you need! The owner John is the nicest guy and is always ready to make you a fat Boars Head sandwich.
