"Tai chi and qi gong are fairly obscure martial arts in the US, with the image of old Chinese ladies in the park moving around slowly - essentially some simulacrum of calisthenics for the truly feeble. This obscures the fact that this is the reference manual for both the "fighting" part of martial arts and the "becoming healthier" part. The two are intertwined. It's incredibly deep knowledge, much more than is taught in "normal" martial arts schools. At Qi Elements, we are calmly and steadily working to learn how to improve circulation of the Qi by learning how the body works, which, in turn, improves how the body works. There's nothing flashy about this, which is just fine by me."
"I have tried several other Taiji schools and this has been the best experience. Sifu Roger has a wonderful teaching method. He takes the time to explain why you do the various forms, movements and breathing techniques and not just the movements. It does not matter if you want to join for health, martial arts or just plain curiosity. Highly recommend for all levels of learners and fitness levels."
"I began Qi Elements several years before Covid, after the Grandmaster from my former school had retired. I was unsure how I would adjust to the new form of healing (qigong) and martial arts(tai chi). I was pleasantly surprised. Tai Chi, I find, is much superior to most martial arts as a mode of self defense. It does not appear aggressive, but it is so effective that rarely is it done competitively. Because it takes concentration to learn, it is both a temporary stress reliever (in class, there is nothing to pay attention to concentrating on the task at hand, so worries fall away)and, over time, brings a general relaxation to the body and mind. By learning to move energy consciously to areas of the body where it is needed, health is also enhanced, In addition, the people at Tai Chi/Qigong class are friendly and welcoming. This, too, is a welcome hiatus in the often hectic pace of daily life. There is a feeling of belonging there. People are helpful without being judgmental. Although this is not an advertised quality of the classes, to me, it is an important part. Come and watch one day. I think you will like it, too. Elizabeth"
"Authentic deep roots teaching of Tai Chi and Qi Gong, in an at peace atmosphere, amongst fellow students and teachers who really know."
"If you are looking for taiji as a martial art or for health, as well as qigong classes, Qi Elements Center for Taijiquan & Qigong (Shifu Roger Blough) is a unique find in Northern Virginia. There are very few places that teach the internal style of Taijiquan and i feel very lucky to have found this place for several reasons. (1) I love martial arts but cannot do any external or hard-style due to age and injuries - Taijiquan fit that need, (2) without the taiji and Qigong that i have learned and practice daily, I very likely would have had another lower back surgery as well as neck surgery, (3) Taiji and Qigong help but only if you practice often - without the desire - one will not practice and my love of Taiji and the people that i train with at Qi Elements keep me interested, training daily, and cominng back for more, (4) I am continuously learning new things, and (5) the meditation and other internal things we do have changed my life for the better!! I cannot recommend Qi ELements and Shifu Roger highly enough. Taijiquan and Qigong keep me moving every day even though I have major spine issues."
