"We arrived at 5:00, my son had got his finger caught in a winch. The nurse put a IV set up in his arm, now mind you he never did get an actual bag of IV fluid, so I guess the insurance got charged for that. And she took about six vile’s of blood, which she left laying for hours, I guess the insurance got billed for those to, she said she done it in case the doctor ordered it, what happened to waiting and see if the doctor orders it. Insurance charges are crazy, I’m calling the insurance tomorrow and tell them how Pikeville Medical likes to bill you for things that the doctor might order. And the to beat it all after about the fifth hour the doctor comes in and put two loose stitches in it, one on each side and tell him he has to see a surgeon tomorrow, the stitches was holding anything but their self’s, we will be going somewhere else from now on. I wouldn’t have gave one star but it doesn’t give and option to not give any"
"This place has really gone downhill since the passing of longtime CEO, Walter May. In the ER, they heavily police pain medicine, which I understand why. But now they are not wanting to give any other nausea medicine besides Zofran. It’s not worth going to anymore. Just drive on by to the next medical facility if you can. Employees are no longer as nice and if you specifically name a medicine that works best for you, you won’t get it. It seems they believe if you know any information about medicines, you “know too much and apparently it’s an addiction since you know.” I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen angry patients walk out with security. This use to be a rare occurrence. It’s no wonder because people have to literally fight/beg to get anything from the current doctors if it’s more than a Tylenol. To the doctors that have wronged many patients: I hope one day you are not in a position of needing a specific medicine but are told “we don’t really give that much here” and expect to keep suffering. When Walter May was CEO, this place really cared. Once he passed away, my experience became treated as a possible addict if you are asked what has helped you before. You tell them the medicine and most of the time you’ll get something else. I have a 4 year degree with pre-pharmacy requirements completed so I would say I know more than an average patient. That could be my problem. Tell them what you usually take to fix your problem, you won’t get it most of the time. I don’t understand their “he knows the name and some details of what the medicine is so he must be an addict with it” attitude."
"After considerable reflection on my numerous personal experiences spanning over several years, I feel compelled to express my deep dissatisfaction of the care provided at PMC. This is one of the worst Hospitals the state of Kentucky. My dissatisfaction is rooted in the consistent terrible care observed during instances involving both my loved ones and friends. While other individual perspectives may vary, I must emphasize that those who claim to have had positive experiences at PMC might be constrained by a lack of exposure to the broader spectrum of healthcare options available. Sadly, their support may be influenced by a limited experience rather than a genuinely commendable performance on the part of the hospital. In light of these concerns, I earnestly advise individuals seeking medical care to exercise caution and carefully consider alternative options, particularly in the vibrant healthcare landscape of Lexington. Opting for a facility with a proven track record of excellence will likely contribute to a more positive and effective healthcare experience. In conclusion, my intention is not to disparage PMC without cause but to provide an earnest assessment based on a series of disappointing encounters. It is my sincere hope that this critique serves as constructive feedback, encouraging PMC to reevaluate and enhance its commitment to delivering the highest standard of care to its patients."
"I don't understand all the negative comments. My sister-in-law was transferred here from a Grundy VA facility. The hospital and care she received at PMC was far superior to anything she got while in Grundy. The nurses and doctors on the 9th floor ICU provided excellent care. I'm from Philadelphia where we have World Class hospitals and I was pleasantly surprised by the care and professionalism at PMC. Our family is very grateful to all the Doctors, Nurses and Staff who cared for my Sister-In-Law"
"I was recently a patient at Pikeville Medical Center and I received the very best care ever! From the doctors to the nurses down the rest of the way every thing was excellent! I’m not not from around the Pikeville area, in fact I live in Chapmanville , WV but their care surpasses that of my local hospital which would be Logan Regional Hospital! Thank you Pikeville Medical, Kim Hawks"
