"The tour of the campus was awesome! The guys did a great job describing life at VMI. We enjoyed the museum and history of the campus as well."
"Interesting exhibits and a very friendly staff. The students at VMI are very friendly as well."
"In addition to visiting the Virginia Military Institute grounds, the VMI Museum is one of the best military museums I've ever been in! The Virginia Military Institute was founded in 1839 as America's first state military college and is the oldest public senior military college in the United States. Cadet-led tours give you a unique perspective of this historic site. We had a very personable and knowledgeable cadet for our tour. The VMI Museum collects, preserves, interprets and exhibits the heritage of VMI as recorded in the 15,000 artifact collection. From the mounted hide of "Little Sorrel," "Stonewall" Jackson's favorite horse, to seven Medals of Honor awarded to VMI alumni, the museum's 15,000 chronicles the story of the nation's first state-sponsored military college. Many items in the collection have been presented over the past 140 years by the individuals who used them. A true part of American history, I strongly encourage you to take the time for the tour and museum if ever in the Lexington, VA area."
"Buildings are definitely interesting, the museum and tour is free. The tour is worth taking as you can learn a little more about life at vmi. The museum part is small but had some interesting stuff in it. They also have a nice gift shop. The main floor is the church and down stairs is the museum. Parking is the only problem. If you can park in front of the library you will be fine."
"This is a great day trip or a must see if you visit Lexington! VMI is a part of history and continues to produce graduates that promote one of our basic rights: freedom! The chapel and Jackson Museum take you back to several points in our history that help you realize freedom is worth fighting for, always!"
