Montessori Children's House

"Our daughters love attending MCH, we are a learning family and I am shocked by all the things my daughters come home telling me every day. They feel cared for, like family. I love Montessori and this one feels like the most laid back of the bunch, as well. The owner is very kind and all the staff are as well. Putting our kids in care was a last resort and we are so happy we found spots for them at MCH, we feel so much better that if they cannot be with us that they can at least be with their second family. I find the other review odd who said their child "couldn’t even consistently identify letters or count" when entering Kindergarten. My children can do this by age 3, I have 4 children, these are common things you would be teaching your children at home not just at school. Montessori is supposed to be grouped with children of varying ages, it is just as much about community and learning from each other, my daughter is the oldest in her class and thus will be a "leader" but that doesn't mean she wont learn - it will be up to her to challenge herself as it will be to learn from other kids who will know these things despite their age being younger. The teachers provide the students with age and development appropriate activities and the students flourish easily, I haven't seen anyone there not. But I find it very odd that any child would start Kindergarten not being able to count or recognize letters, these things are learned through basic play at home, at school, the grocery store, heck even children's television shows teach these things - so it just doesn't sound right to me."

"My child started attending MCH as an infant and toddler, and she received excellent care and nourishment there. However, I don’t recommend MCH for preschool. My child was consistently placed in learning groups with younger children (1+ year age difference) because of MCH’s spotty diversity in enrollment for older students. This lack of consideration hindered my child’s academic development. She left MCH and entered kindergarten in public school completely unprepared — after paying pricy tuition for years, my child couldn’t even consistently identify letters or count. My child is now flourishing in public school, although I regret my financial and emotional investment in MCH. The leadership at MCH also plays favorites with certain students, and the PTO is extremely cliquey. Montessori is a fabulous methodology with numerous advantages, but you’ll be better off with Blue Ridge Montessori, Elizabeth’s, or Randolph."

"MCH is a wonderful school, where you know your child is loved and cared for. All the teachers are amazing and truly have a love for the children, and for helping them grow. They have a huge outdoor area in the woods where the children can play and enjoy time in green space. Our two girls absolutely loved this school!"
