"Mixed Experience with Goddess Locs Service I had both positive and concerning experiences during my recent visit to True Hair Love salon (THLS) or braids by Ugo. Two years ago, the service was exceptional, and the stylist was gentle, making me feel comfortable. Fast forward to my recent appointment, I chose this place for the 2nd time, mainly for its previous positive experience. I booked the appointment through Style Seat, expecting to pay around $248 to $400 based on the app. However, I ended up paying $483, exceeding my budget significantly. The stylist, Jeanette, started the service with her daughter present, which was a bit distracting but tolerable. Unfortunately, the pain during the process was intense, reminiscent of my first negative experience with a different stylist. The parting of my hair and the tightness of the style caused discomfort. The price increase for thick hair was vague on the website, and I was charged more than expected. After the appointment, the pain persisted, and driving home was challenging. I experienced tension bumps and dull pain, which affected my overall satisfaction. Additionally, the lack of transparency in costs and unexpected charges left me feeling uneasy. Despite the positive history with THLS, the recent experience with pain, unclear pricing, and unexpected charges has led me to reconsider returning. I hope this feedback helps in improving the overall customer experience. Update : Appreciation for Resolution I appreciate the prompt response and resolution provided by THLS regarding the recent confusion in my appointment. After discussing the matter further, it became clear that there was a miscommunication about the length of the braids. The partial refund offered by THLS demonstrates their commitment to customer satisfaction, and I'm grateful for their understanding and willingness to address the issue. I understand now that my hair was considered too long for the requested armpit length, leading to the mid-back length. While the service itself had moments of discomfort, I appreciate the braider's effort in ensuring my comfort by checking in on me as I was shifting and offering breaks. I also understand and respect the salon's policy of accommodating single mothers, and I appreciate the flexibility they provide. In summary, the resolution and the effort to clarify the situation are commendable. I hope this updated review better reflects the overall experience, taking into account the service provided and the proactive steps taken to address the concerns."

"I only let Ugo style my locs, and she never fails. She also started them. People literally chase me down the street to give me compliments when I get my hair done. I always feel more beautiful, and we have great laughs while I’m in her chair. Muahhhh, love her so much."

"I’ve gotten my hair done at this shop a few times over the past couple years and they do great work! The staff is meticulous and detail oriented. However, at times they do not start appointments on time and ensure you have an understanding of the service being done and that it has been communicated to you correctly."

"My appointment was at 9am, stylist was late and did not start braiding my hair until 10:10am. Another client arrived on time only to sit and wait for her stylist as well. So the client must pay deposit and be on time just to wait and extra hour. I was asked when booking my appointment what color hair I wanted and selected a color from their website days prior. Hair color I selected was not available and had to pick another color. I was told the length I wanted wasn’t achievable so I opted to get the longer length and pay the extra $30. Once the style was completed it was clear I could have easily got the shorter length. They offered to cut it but that was pointless after sitting for the longer time. The manager/owner explained that when doing the Kinks and Curls braids “they” feel it looks better longer…so basically my opinion and pockets don’t matter, I should wear my hair how they like it. I will never again visit this establishment and don’t recommend it either."

"This is my second time going to Braids and Styles by Ugo. The first time I got Marley twists that were done flawlessly. They were neat, no pain, and lasted very well. My first experience was great so I decided to come back for another protective style. This time I got the crochet with human hair install and it is AMAZING. It looks so natural and I have received so many compliments! Ugo was beyond helpful when discussing style options and answering my questions. She even made sure I knew how to take care of my new style since I hadn’t had it before and I’m not good at doing hair. Again, there was no pain at all, which I feel is very important. And the style looks just as good weeks later! All the ladies are very professional, the salon has a great atmosphere and they exceeded my expectations each time. I would DEFINITELY recommend!!!"
