"The live wire mtn dew was expired in September of 23 and I’ve been there a few times since and it’s still there. They claim to have hot subs on the website menu and paper menu but I was told they cannot make a hot sub. Also tired of the nasty looks given from Kimberly upon my entry, everytime."
"A great oasis in one of Virginia's actual hidden valleys. We've been here a couple of times related to our activities at Peter's Mill Run OHV Area. The store is complete with friendly personnel and delicious deli treats. If you need a trail pass, this should be your destination - and if you're just passing through stop anyway. We recommend it."
"We were lost & SO happy to find this awesome little store! I bought some Mango Salsa & now wish I would have bought 2. The two women in the store were SO helpful & we got a home grown cucumber as we left. The owner made sure my grandson got the "right" bottle of Gatorade. I am still savoring the chocolate covered raisins I bought. The only thing better than the good eats was the customer service."
"TLDR: Stop in. There are very good sandwiches, coffee, groceries, art, gifts, and if you've read this far: the best carrot cake I've ever had. Claire is very simply the best. Her staff are so kind and so helpful. Did I mention the carrot cake? I came across the store during a mid-pandemic camping trip, and I was smart enough to grab a slice of the cake out of the fridge to go with our firewood. Me and a friend with roots in the area agreed that this was the best carrot cake we've ever had. So I beelined right back to the store after we packed up camp determined to find the cake maker. It wasn't hard- hi Claire! Since then, I have made several pilgrimages (I'm only about 60 miles away...) back, obviously follow on IG and subscribe to the newsletter, and I really really value Claire's hard work, carrot cake, style, and Fort Valley as a whole because of the store. This is not the kind of place I visit casually in an increasingly polarized world. And yet, it's worth it every time. Fort Valley is beautiful. If you've made it *this* far, you see it's deeper than cake. Claire and her staff have put little touches everywhere, and they are so thoughtful about the items they sell. Each and every staff member I've interacted with has been patient with my dogged questions about cake, and they've been personable and kind and human every time. Thank you, FVCS. Many well wishes and returns your way."
"we were 4 people staying nearby on the campsites.. we walked in because we forgot charcoal for grilling lol.. but as soon as you walk in the store you can smell and see the in house bakery .. its a family owned family run store with a gas pump and they are always smiling ..dont miss the cranberry walnut bread and their other in house baked goods.. we got some for munching and finished half off it in the store just having coffee and then stopped the next day again to sit n enjoy and talk to them such is the vibe !! its very cute and you would get supplies if you forgot from the town .. and please please lets talk about their grilled sandwiches !!!!!!! their sandwiches are fresh made to order and fresh .. the grilled cheese is to die for aka a perfect grilled cheese ..i can travel again 2hours from VA for THAT sandwich ..i drool as i write this ..dont miss that sandwich !! you would talk about it when you got back .. as i am .. theres a small seating area where you could sit n eat n relax .. enjoy the outdoors more now..as we spent time there we saw a farmers truck leave some corn there and it was for sale literally farm to store fresh !! i know the review is long , but this place deserved it.. these are hidden gems in the countryside"
