Reviews
"We had oxtail, curry, and jerk, plus a couple of Ray's homemade juices. Owner was very personable and kind. His kitchen was clean and I loved his excitement about his juices and Cole slaw, enough to try them both. We enjoyed our food and will be back to visit again soon. Portions were good, taste was flavorful. Oxtail was super tender! Cabbage was delish. Jerk was the right amount of spice (maybe a 5 on a 0-10 scale, but it depends on preference and tolerance) and curry was good (not a spicy curry)."
"Was grocery shopping at the Farm Fresh, and we decided to try this place. Its unassuming appearance hides some fantastic Caribbean cuisine. The quality is outstanding, the service is friendly, and you can instantly tell that the proprietors have a real passion for what they do. The beef patties are wonderful, and you can tell they're handmade. The cabbage, rice, and coco bread are all authentic. The jerk chicken is tender, juicy, and flavorful!! If I had any critique, it would only be that the spice level could be higher, but not everyone can handle it. The authenticity and warmth of the Caribbean shines through here, and it's like a little slice of Jamaica here in Portsmouth."
"Originally was running in grab lunch from farm fresh deli but decided to give Ray's a try. Prices looked reasonable, area was clean and the food was smelling great. I got a lunch special, the stewed chicken with mac and cabbage. It just wasn't what I expected, the cabbage good, the Mac was plain and dry, and the chicken tasted like regular baked chicken with barely any season on it."
"When I tell you Ray’s Jamaican Spot is like that, after the first bite I was in love. Definitely will be back real soon to try other items off the menu. Also, the owner is really nice and friendly support my guy!!!!"
