Reviews
"On the way home from some shopping we passed by Monsoon Siam in Charlottesville, a charming old home turned into a restaurant of white concrete exterior, colourful lights and multi coloured umbrellas, this spot is a local favourite, with outdoor patio and indoor seating options. Feeling hungry, we stopped for a light dinner. The food was wonderful, we could not have been disappointed. Recent reviews raved about food quality, and we agree. Food: Appetizer Moo Sam Chan is a fried crispy pork belly served on a spring mixed bed with sriracha sauce. It was crispy as advertised, the flavour of the meat was rich, the fat melted in the mouth, the sriracha sauce came on the side and meat tasted good by itself without the sauce too. Entree Our Drunken Noodles was flavourful, warm, little spicy which built overtime, the spice level contributed nicely to the flavour of the food and did not overpower. It was perfect to the palate. The portion size was generous for the noodles, we split the entree and the appetizer. Beverages: Iced Thai tea was very tasty. Singha Beer was a nice lager to enjoy for the evening. Service: We very much enjoyed the food but we felt the service was lacking tonight, our waitress was in a green sweatshirt seemed inconvenienced by us and rushed us in every interaction we had with her, we saw her acting in a similar manner with other tables, when my partner asked about a beer they offered, she ordered it without confirming with us and left the table that caused confusion and we called her back, I asked to keep a menu on the table before too which she took it away anyway. Later in the evening when a new table arrived she did not offer any introduction or greeting, the same way she didn't for us. Instead, she gave the new table their menus and said that the kitchen closes in one hour and walked away. In addition to this we sat for 15 mins before we placed our order, once we placed the order the food came extremely quickly, kudoss to the kitchen staff, the drinks came after the appetizer. Overall we had a nice evening and a tasty bite to eat while passing through town we enjoyed the food and would enjoy returning to try some more, that said while this local favourite will be somewhere we continue to visit, we hope that owners invest more time with the wait staff to help them treat guests with more warmth and hospitality."
"Food and atmosphere is great! The best thai place in C.ville! Their service was a little uncaring. Great place for a date night. Price was not too expensive either."
"Food - 5/5 Atmosphere - 5/5 Service - 5/5 Value - 5/5 Truly above any other Thai food you’d find in Charlottesville! The Thai curry was bold and flavorful and much more than I expected; I highly recommend. I love the young green pepper that they add with many of their dishes, it adds something that you didn’t know you was missing. Though I haven’t tried many, their cocktails list is interesting."
"Monsoon Siam is a cute little Thai restaurant that’s worth checking out if you’re planning a trip to the downtown mall. But I wouldn’t necessarily go out of my way to dine there. The curry was fantastic and extremely flavorful. We had the duck curry this time we went, but I think my favorite is the green curry. I could drink it as-is from the bowl! The Cigar Puffs were ok; I liked the peppery filling but the crust was too thick and greasy. The drunken noodles were also pretty good, but nothing to write home about. Overall, there are some great dishes to try here. But without a designated parking lot, it can be a hassle that’s not worth the trouble unless you’re already going to be in the area anyway."
"Delicious food! Service was a little slower than I'd anticipated, but they were fairly busy. We'll definitely be visiting here again. The Pad Thai was delicious. I caution those sensitive to spicy food. I asked for a Spice Level 1 and got what I would have expected a 3 or 4 to be. Still tasty, though!"
