Reviews of BALVANERA
"The Strip District has a new kid on the block and they are slaying it. The service is top notch, the high ceilings keeps the noise level manageable so you can carry on good conversations with your guests. The space is modern, comfortable and not pretentious. The food is outstanding and I took my sweet time eating because I was savoring all of the flavors that were dancing wildly on my palate. The crudo was especially nice, albeit a bit too small for my large appetite."
"The restaurant is very large with tons of seating. They were able to accommodate a baby stroller. The wait staff and owner were super nice, and checked constantly which I appreciated given they were busy. We enjoyed the cocktails from the full bar. I got a spicy margarita and it was one of the best I’ve had. It was very flavorful and worth the cost. For appetizers/tapas we split between 6 of us the lamb sausage, the octopus, and the roasted beets. This was enough for 1 bite per person. Everything was very flavorful and very fresh. My personal favorite was the roasted beets - I personally could have eaten that as a main meal it was the best. For entrees someone got the sea bass which looked good, some got the strip steak/ribeye which were large cuts of meat and cooked perfectly. If you get a meat they give 2 sauces one which is a chimi churi and the other was a type of relish? Both were very good. I thought the steaks were kind of pricey- they also don’t come with anything so keep that in mind. I personally got the Milanese Chicken which is a MASSIVE thinly cut piece of chicken which is breaded and fried to perfection. It is topped with a large helping of a fresh avocado/cucumber salad with fresh herbs and a sauce. This was phenomenal and better than the steak for the price in my opinion- you don’t feel the need to have a side with this. It’s plenty for an entree. There were 2 people in my group who got a side (the eggplant and the mashed potatoes). The mashed potatoes were very smooth and creamy and a good helping. The eggplant was room temperature (how it’s served) with a medley of other veggies such as tomato, capers, etc). I’m a big eggplant fan and really liked this. Dessert we got cappuccino and espresso (all good). We got 3 desserts to share - flan, toffee cake, and chocolate torta. I don’t usually like flan but thought this was delicious. I also really liked the toffee cake dessert it had a great flavor, and a homemade vanilla ice cream. I also really enjoyed the chocolate torta with mascarpone cream. The chocolate dessert is semi sweet which I appreciate. I would overall definitely come again, and excited to choose some other exciting tapas and menu items. Just note it’s an expensive evening out. It was $600(not including tip) for my party of 6 - remember we each got a cocktail, 3 apps, each an entree, each a coffee, and 3 desserts for reference."
"The service was wonderful and attentive. Our server quickly got in drink and small plate orders and seemed knowledgeable of the menu. We also got a few steaks medium rare. The steaks came one on the medium-well/well-done side in which our server immediately took them back and soon after came out with new ones. While they were still a bit medium, they were wonderful and flavorful. The one owner, Meredith Boyle came over and apologized and offered a few desserts on the house which were so good. She was extremely friendly and apologetic. Overall, it was a bit pricey (sides of fries and mashed potatoes were $10 each, as well as the wines), but the food was delicious. We’ll probably be back after they get a good rhythm going after their opening."
"We had dinner there tonight and the food and service were both fantastic! Highly recommend the empanadas, cabbage, chicken, and mashed potatoes. We had a wonderful experience and will be coming back!"
