"I had the pleasure of being Dr. Jacobs's Doctorate Student Intern for one year. I found my supervision to be rewarding and an excellent learning experience. Doctor Jacobs taught me to consider other possible factors that may impact an individual's life beyond the obvious. Dr. Jacob, is a Psychiatrist, that understands literally, “ … you can lead the horse to the water, but you can’t make it drink”. His style and theoretical approach to treatment, is to promote cognitive processing within the person who has underlying conflict and unresolved issues or problems. Identifying realizing what the problem is, and how it evolved is the beginning of the healing process. He will not convince the client about how he or she got stuck, but will validate it once the patient identifies it—that’s the beginning of healing. The process continues, with strategies and coping recommendations. Yes, it is hard work, and he is patient, as he should be. If he simply told a patient what the problem could be , self realization, accountability, self- regulation does not happen. Then , coping with dysfunctional and self destructive behaviors continues. He did not tell me whatever I interpreted or assumed, he patiently continued with me as an intern in consult with complex clients until I understood what was happening to my client. I valued his patience and wisdom. Lastly, the charges for my training and education with him, was beyond reasonable. I received my Doctorate of Psychology, on May 3, 2017. Thank you Doctor Jacobs."
