"I started working at Devereux Pocono in October 2019 as a DSP and was promoted to Program Specialist a year and a half ago. The manager I had as a DSP kept encouraging me to apply to be a Specialist and move ahead in the company, and I truly appreciated the support. There is definitely career advancement at Devereux, and it is encouraged. I currently work for one of the best managers I ever had, and the Clinical Department is small but tight knit. I feel included and appreciated here. Devereux is supportive of educational pursuits and does offer some tuition assistance. They recognize the importance of education for their staff and how that will benefit the individuals that we serve. Devereux also provides a significant amount of training yearly so that the staff can be well prepared to care for our individuals. The upper management is easy to speak with and willing to help out if needed, or to try and rectify something if there is an issue that arises. Devereux is not perfect, but no company is (especially in this field). It is, however, a wonderful place to work and I would recommend them to anyone. If I had it to do over, I would work here all over again."

"I have been working at Devereux in Newfoundland for a little over 4 months and can say with total confidence that I love my job. "I don't see this place as bad as those who have reviewed before me but I do know a few things. First, I worked there over 3 years and they overloaded me with jobs and when I begged to have a case removed because the mom would make me drive an HOUR without confirming if I could see the client (means NO pay) they wrote me up and then ultimately let me go for telling the woman I would not come unless she confirmed. But the most important thing is the BHRS is contract which means you, as an independent contractor can have money taken away from you they don't like something. It also means they do not take taxes out, do not contribute to your social security or retirement, don't pay for training that is required each year and pay you a ridiculously low rate ($10/hr) but require a Master's degree for weekly supervision. They also do not pay for travel which is a BIG cost. They say they pay you more than other agencies because they don't pay for these things but other agencies pay very close to what Devereux pays so it does not make up for it. Plus, when you are let go, you aren't able to collect unemployment because you are an IC but the job holds STRICT control over you like every other BHRS agency but the other agencies consider you an employee. Devereux also may give you 30 hours of working with children that is paid for but another 10-15 hours per week is paperwork that is NOT paid for. If their equipment messes up and loses your paperwork, you get to do it again for free. The management does not back you up and will stab you in the back. So run, do not walk away from this business."
