"We visited because we were looking for a good spot to get cocktails and whiskey. They did not disappoint. I don't know how many whiskeys they have officially, but they have enough of them that they had to list them in their "Bourbon Bible." We tried the Nachos, crab Rangoon, and the Barrell Burger and enjoyed all of them. The nachos were delicious with shredded pork on top. The cocktails were a highlight. I found several great whiskey pours at reasonable prices (understand it's never cheap to drink bourbon out), and my wife and daughter loved their cocktails they ordered. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is cool and rustic, and the whole vibe makes it a place worth trying. I hope to come back before our trip is over."
"Barrel DC is a rustic whiskey lounge in Cap Hill that delivered a brunch experience that deserves all the stars! The bottomless mimosas were flowing and our server was amazing about making sure we never had to ask for another bottle. The menu is simple, but each dish that my friend had was delicious. Now, let's talk about the chicken and waffles – they were amazing. The crispy, golden waffle paired harmoniously with the breaded chicken breast which was seasoned very well. It's safe to say these might be the best chicken and waffles I've ever had – hands down! The ambiance was lively, the service was top-notch, and I would definitely come back here again."
"Delicious brunch. Love the make your own mimosas. The kitchen was slow but that was fine with the delicious drinks. It was worth the wait the chicken and waffles as fantastic and perfectly cooked. The crab Benny was all crab meat and no filler. The music selection was our speed with 80s tunes and not too loud with college football on but silent. Highly recommend among many brunch possibilities in navy yard and eastern market."
"I have a love/hate relationship with this place. The food is generally really good. Highly recommend the waffle and the breakfast potatoes. But this $6 order of bacon was laughable. It was broken into thirds, and when lined up end to end it totaled a strip and a third of bacon. Yes there are five “pieces” in my photo but one of the original four was broken in half. I expect markups on restaurant food, it’s always going to be more expensive than cooking at home. But $6 for just over one strip of bacon is egregious. Barrel is not a high-end restaurant that can get away with this behavior. Also, they had one of the most disgusting bathrooms I’ve ever experienced in a restaurant. It reeked of stale urine, suggesting that it hadn’t been cleaned in at least a few days. The floor, sink, and toilet itself were all dirty. Employees walk right past the bathroom when exiting the kitchen going to the tables, and the urine smell is present walking up to the bathroom even with the door closed. I would be embarrassed to work in a place this horrible. Shame on management. I can only hope the kitchen area is better kept than the bathrooms."
