About the Business

Christ the Saviour Seminary, located at 225 Chandler Avenue in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, was founded in 1940 by Metropolitan Orestes P. Chornock, the first bishop of the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese. Originally established in New York City and later in Nicholson, PA, the seminary found its permanent home in Johnstown in 1951 at the Strayer Mansion.

The institution serves two main purposes: to educate and train Orthodox men for priesthood, helping them grow intellectually, morally, and spiritually, and to provide theological and spiritual formation in the Orthodox Christian tradition for those interested in deepening their faith, regardless of their path towards ministry.

Christ the Saviour Seminary is approved by the Pennsylvania State Council of Education to grant a Bachelor of Theology degree. Under the leadership of His Eminence, Metropolitan Gregory, the seminary aims to inspire a love for God and the Orthodox Church in its students. This website is a collaboration with the Department of Internet Ministries of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.
