"It is unfortunate that I have to leave a bad review because my therapist Imani is actually really good. However, unfortunately, administratively this business is unprofessional. It’s also disappointing because this is a black owned business and I really wanted to support it, but it’s just too unprofessional and emotionally draining - which is super counterintuitive. With my insurance, I have a copay of $27 after each session (I had sessions biweekly), and the invoice I always receive says payment isn’t due for 3-4 weeks after each session. However, they call and email and pester you right after your session like a bill collector over money that isn’t due for another month. I have never missed nor been late on a payment, so they know that they will get their money as they always have since I started sessions in 2022. Yet, last month, the night before my grandmother’s funeral (which they were aware of) they thought it was appropriate to reach out to me and ask me for $27 that wasn’t due for another month. What type of counseling service does that knowing someone is grieving smh. Then again today, I was emailed about paying for a session that I just had. Then to top it off, going on 8pm tonight, that email was followed up with a call asking if I got the email that was sent 30 minutes prior and demanding the $27 that isn’t due until January 21st. It is January 2nd. Like why? Since when is it appropriate to email and call clients late at night about a bill that isn’t due for 3 weeks and with no other outstanding payments due? Sally Mae doesn’t even do that! Ms. Bowman sent me an email saying that, although the invoice says the due date isn’t for another 3-4 weeks, they have a “policy that copays must be paid on the same day.” Yet this wasn’t ever communicated to me. Again, unprofessional. What is the point of sending an invoice with a due date of 3-4 weeks out if you will just demand that we pay the same day we have a session? Shouldn’t the invoice due date just be the same date as the session??? The math ain’t mathing. To treat your consistent and paying customers like thieves is mindblowing (and note again that I’ve been a client since 2022). They know what I do for a living and that I have the money, and if I wanted to I could pay for the rest of the years’ sessions up front, yet the harassment continues. I communicated to them before to please not harass me about such a small amount of money that they know I’m going to pay even before the due date because I always have (I typically pay at least 1-2 weeks before it’s due). What do they do? Up the anty and email and call late at night on a weeknight knowing people are preparing for bed and work in the morning. This shows a complete disregard of the time and inconsideration of peoples feelings - not something one would expect from a counseling service, right? There was also a time when she charged my card over $200 without warning or communication and without first contacting me or my insurance to figure out what was going on (she did return all the money upon my request, but I can imagine how that could affect someone who doesn’t have the funds in their account and wasn’t anticipating such a large charge). Come to find out, Ms. Bowman didn’t complete the necessary paperwork with my insurance as needed for my sessions to be properly processed by my insurance (that should have been a sign). At this point, I will need therapy sessions just for having to deal with all of this smh. If you don’t want to deal with unprofessionalism and to be made to feel like a thief by the very people that are supposed to show you kindness and support, please look elsewhere as there are plenty of other counseling services in the area that I’m sure will not treat their clients this way. I’m certain nobody wants to be treated or made to feel the way this business made me feel while grieving a loss, it’s literally contradictory to what they should be doing. Best of luck on your search for counseling/therapy, but it may be better to check out other options first before opting to come here."
"I met Dr. Bowman years ago prior to her own counseling firm and have followed her throughout the years. She pairs techniques with behavioral counseling concepts, affirmation, positive regard counseling along with self atonement and reward systems. I am no longer in the area, but for the years I was, she provided me with the tools to become more assertive in my life and in my relationships with others. To this very day, I use the techniques I learned from her during our sessions to continue to empower myself and strategically handle issues impacting my life for correct decision making."
"This therapist (Dr. Teressa Bowman) is not qualified to deal with trauma. I have solid records with The Women’s Center of Vienna that I in fact had therapy with Dr. Teressa Bowman. During sessions with Dr. Teressa Bowman at The Women’s Center (who now has started her own practice), she laughed at me in a description of my trauma and repeatedly berated me on how memory “is not reliable”. She did this in the context of couples counseling. She retraumatized me and caused more conflict in my relationship. In writing this review, Dr. Teressa Bowman has attempted to mislead the public saying that I am confused about who I got services from and that I do not have proof that she was indeed my counselor. In addition, I called the office to have them take down their response. I got a call back from Dr. Teressa Bowman who asked that I take down this post and showed no remorse for her actions then or now. She seems to care only about keeping her ratings up. I saw this therapist while she worked for The Women’s Center a few years ago. Clearly, she has not changed. A good therapist would have contacted me with remorse over their actions, would have tried to explain what they were thinking when they treated me so poorly, would have taken inventory and improved. Unfortunately, Dr. Teressa Bowman did none of those things. This leads me to believe that she likely continues to treat patients badly and attempt to cover up any negative reviews with her lies."
"As a resident in counseling, Dr. Bowman and the VHH team have provided a guided experiences to support me in becoming a licensed therapist. I am truly blessed to be able to work with other therapist who share a like minded passion for helping and serving the minority in our communities."
"I have Started seeing Dr Bowman for a month or so, and it has really started to help me navigate through my thought process and how to stay positive about life’s journey. She listens to my thoughts and experiences and assigns very helpful exercises that actually helps me in a longer run! Investing my time with her has been nothing less than useful and positive!"
