"This organization is the reason I will never again seek mental healthcare despite needing it. When I looked to Lifestance for mental health services, I spoke with their billing department about what I would be charged based on my insurance and the services I was being provided. They had all the relevant information, and assured me I would only have to pay $35 out of pocket. Now nearly four months later I am suddenly getting billed for over $400 for the one service I was told would only be $35. I never would have gone to the appointment if I had been given accurate information about the cost. Additionally, the doctor I saw refused to refill the anxiety medication I had been on successfully for years and instead insisted on prescribing a class of meds that I had previously had terrible side effects with despite me expressly telling him I would never fill that prescription. So basically, I came to Lifestance with anxiety, was lied to about the cost of service despite doing my due diligence, didn’t receive effective treatment for my anxiety, and then got slammed with a surprise bill right before Christmas which greatly increased my anxiety. *** EDIT*** Just got the most unhelpful advice from the most unhelpful billing associate in history. I was trying to figure out how to get in touch with someone named Tiffany (who was the only person so far who was both compassionate and knew what she was doing) and the random lady I got connected with said “You can just keep calling back and see if eventually you get her”. The wait times for a billing callback are >60 min and the assignment is totally random. If you ever have a problem, don’t expect help from the Lifestance billing team. I’ve repeatedly been told I’d be contacted by someone and not once has that actually happened. To reiterate, if you’re looking for a place that will refuse to assist you with mental health issues and instead create more, Lifestance is the place to go. *Second Edit* They clearly only respond with that HR email so they can pretend they actually offer answers to their patients. I sent all the information they requested, and never got a response. This place is a joke. *Hopefully Final Edit* After well over a month that involved escalating this complaint well over half a dozen times and being completely ignored, I finally got a response from someone who knew what they were doing. Turns out the billing department screwed up what they submitted to my insurance. If I had believed the multiple billing employees who brushed off my complaints and rudely kept repeating “Your balance is $413” to every question I asked, I’d be out of a lot of money. Do not trust this company with your money or your mental health. Clearly neither billing or psychiatry actually cares about patients."

"I have absolutely no complaints about the doctor's care, but the Billing department does not answer my calls or those from my insurance. almost 6k bills that need to be resubmitted to be paid by my health insurance in the correct way that LIFESTANCE knows because they have sent them the warnings and detailed steps on how to make the payment request and they simply do not respond. The only incorrect entry of the payment request was made only for the Jul-Sep three-month therapies and the months of Apr-Jun have not been entered. My Health insurance has contacted them indicating the process to follow and I have also written to the billing area with the details and there has been no response for at least two months of constant attempts by my insurance and me personally. 8 months have passed since the first consultation, many calls answered by staff with a bad attitude and no solution."

"This review is strictly for the billing department of LifeStance Health; I have a wonderful therapist who has been excellent to work with. I am owed $870 in copayments that were wrongfully billed to me for the entirety of 2022. I have been attempting to work with the billing department to get this money returned to me in a timely fashion. It is now September 2023, and I have yet to see a single dollar returned to me. I have filed a complaint to the Virginia Department of Health Professions Enforcement Division, in the hope that this spurs some action from LifeStance. This is an unacceptable way to treat patients, especially those seeking mental health support. If you plan to work with a therapist with LifeStance, please make the choice carefully, as you may be forced to deal with an extremely inefficient and poorly run billing department."
