Reviews of Families First Counseling and Psychiatry
"Would highly recommend the DBT program here. I’ve recieved about 5 years of treatment here. During the 5 years I did 3 rounds (aka 3 years!) of the DBT program …it’s a commitment but well worth it! Highly highly highly recommend. Having that structure and commitment helps build the skill to take care of urself first- for me it was something I’ve never done before so I struggled. But learning new ways and new points of views on how to approach life really taught me so much about myself and how to interact. Different skills work for different folks and it’s about learning these skills and using what applies to your life- bc everyone has different struggles. It’s not a one size fits all. But that’s why it’s important to continue doing the work and to continue showing up for yourself bc it can make a difference if you’re wanting and willing to put the work in. They were one of the first to give telehealth appointments before the pandemic so when that happened they were ahead of the game in being able to continue services. Haven’t been in person i’m years but they’ve always done a good job at making the lobby setting comfortable with a childrens section and books to keep the little ones occupied. They use sound machines to protect privacy. Again, mental health is something you have to work at continuously just like your physical body. I hope you find what you are looking for and hope this review makes you feel safer in choosing a place you can receive the help you deserve ❤️ Good luck on your journey!"
"I have a mixed experience with this place. From the psychiatry side, I had a PA, Dominic, who was very helpful in making me feel like I have a choice to stop taking medications and I have been off medication for almost 20 months now! On the other hand, I had a therapist, Norma, that I decided to stop seeing her after 3 months because she is abusive and inconsistent. This woman berated me and shamed me every other session, then lied to her colleagues because she kept cancelling on me. I found out about her lie, because another therapist called me 7 months after I refused to continue to see her, saying she told them my schedule didn't work with her when she was the one cancelling on me. And then FFCP calls me to tell me that they can't double bill, because my Medicaid is still attached to my current therapist BUT Norma had double billed me and I was seeing two therapists!"
"This is a terrible service provider. They don't work with the patient for appointments so the person in need gets no help. They say they'll meet you in Olney and be in Greenbelt. If you call you're on hold for 35 minutes and then hung up on. Go somewhere else if you need help."
"Find another place for treatment. My family member waited months for an appointment. Showed up 20 minutes early. No one answered knocking at door or ANY of multiple telephone calls at scheduled appointment time. Finally hours later spoke with office staff who said appointment was virtual. Appointmemt reschedule for the next week. Next week still no appointment as no link emailed. Sorry excuse for a therapy office given as a referral. I should've read reviews and not wasted months with this place."
"Very disappointed. My daughter waited over 4 months to see a therapist who did not even show for the first appt with no excuse and when she showed for the second on zoom she was cold and disinterested in her problem and told her she would probably stay the way she was forever and said she basically could not do anything for her. After the agency took 4 months matching her up with this therapist who they said could help her with specific problem."
