"Dr. Provan was my supervisor during a particularly stressful year of my doctoral training for which I am very grateful to have had her support and wisdom. Not only did I appreciate her hands-on and experiential way of teaching and modeling clinical skills, I also benefited from her focus on self-compassion for both the patient and therapist. Dr. Provan exudes a kind and warm nature that helped provide grounding and openness to my own abilities and exploration as a growing therapist. I am particularly grateful for Dr. Provan’s emphasis on providing feedback related to my strengths as a therapist and her genuine dedication to my development as a clinician. I so enjoyed and benefited from supervision with Dr. Provan and credit my love for the work I do and the kind of therapist I want to be to my experience with Dr. Provan. Truly the best supervision experience I have had!"
"Amy initially served as my supervisor during my third year of training in my PsyD program. I thought I knew what process oriented therapy was- Amy took it to a whole other level. It was through her compassion, attention, intuitiveness, and skill that I developed my own therapeutic style and learned how to intimately and authentically connect with my clients. She taught me nuanced ways to encourage discourse and deepen my listening- both for my clients and for myself. A year later, I elected to intern at the Notre Dame Counseling Center entirely based on the fact that Amy would serve as my supervisor. Amy would frequently push me to explore my case load deeper, developing more profound and sophisticated conceptualizations, and honing in on my therapeutic skills. It was under her guidance that I found my therapeutic voice and developed the confidence in my own skills that I have today. She doesn't know it, but I frequently employ a "WWAS- what would Amy say" when I find myself at loss when dealing with a particularly challenging case. Amy has since become a confidant, a mentor, and friend. She holds emotion and experiences not only without judgement, but with a keen eye toward equity and genuine understanding. I have yet to encounter a supervisor so attuned to the well-being of their supervisee, and so invested in their professional and personal growth and development. I am the clinician I am very much due to her dedication and wisdom, and feel so fortunate to have studied with one of the best there is."
"Dr. Amy Provan supervised me during my doctoral training. She provided detailed feedback on my clinical work, opportunities to learn new skills and approaches, and most importantly, provided a safe environment where I could feel comfortable being vulnerable with her and which fostered my connection with myself and growth as a clinician. She clearly sees not just the clinical skills, but the person behind them and why that matters for therapy. My time working with Amy was a particularly stressful time in my training, as I was also applying for pre-doctoral internships. I credit Amy with helping me stay grounded and focused on the most important aspects of my work. Her support and perspective were invaluable and she is truly one of the best supervisors I've had."
"Dr. Amy Provan was my clinical supervisor for over two years of my doctoral training. My time with Amy was hands down the best supervisory experience I have ever had. I gained the skills needed to be an effective clinician. Amy allowed room to grow as both a clinician and as a whole person. There was always the opportunity to reflect on the work and grow my confidence in my ability. Dr. Provan created space for me to notice when my inner critic was overshadowing my true capabilities and performance. I learned how to utilize textbook clinical skills in real scenarios that I had been studying in the classroom for years. Most importantly, Amy pushed me to take risks and reminded me that it was ok to bring my most genuine and authentic self to the room with clients. I am forever grateful for this training experience and to have had the opportunity to learn from Dr. Provan as my clinical supervisor and to have her as my mentor."
"I have known Dr. Provan for more than 10 years in her role as Director of Counseling Services at a local University. She is a dedicated therapist - always ready to help a student in need. She is a strong advocate for her student clients, a terrific mentor to the interns she trains, a supportive colleague to those of us who have had the pleasure of working with her, and a really kind and compassionate person. I highly recommend Dr. Provan - she is a great therapist!"
