Reviews of Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital - Emergency Department
"Definitely wouldn't advise going here. They don't have an insurance department. The billing department will not tell you whether or not they accept your insurance. No, I'm not paraphrasing or exaggerating - Samantha in billing specifically said they do not have a department that handles insurance questions and that if you want to know if this hospital, a complete independent business entity, accepts your insurance, you have to ask a third party (your insurance). Now, if you have Medicare and have dealt with Medicare or Medicaid, I'm sure you realize the extent to which this is a problem - as often the Medicare/Medicaid provider lists are out of date, and when you call to find a provider listed as "in network", and reach their billing department, they will tell you that Medicare/Medicaid has made a mistake and they no longer accept Medicare/Medicaid insurance. I've lived in many states, on many Medicaid subsidiaries and Medicare at other times, and this has consistently been the case. At one point, only approx 30% of the providers on the "in network" list turned out to be in-network, after I called them to verify. I was also told that patients may be informed in person by hospital staff, such as receptionists, that their insurance is accepted, only to have it later determined that the insurance will not treat this hospital as in network. Specifically, Blue Cross Blue Shield was mentioned as an example of recent past billing issues. So this hospital has cut costs by eliminating or else never assembling a critical department for consumer protection means that they are foisting their responsibilities and financial burdens on already medically & likely financially burdened patients. This is sickeningly predatory at worst, unempathetic & irresponsible at best. Therefore, I highly recommend seeking healthcare somewhere that has a modicum more respect for the long-term health of patients, since financial status is the #1 predictor of wellness and recovery across the board in medical surveys, and getting a multithousand dollar bill because of a flippant billing mistake is "the patient's problem" as far as these guys are concerned."
"Dr. Snyder was great, he informed us extremely well; The nurses Kim R, Margo as well the procedure nurses were great; the care was excellent."
"The nurse was very nice and everyone was helpful. She did her best to make sure I was good. By the time I left I felt way better than I did, when I was brought to the ER."
"Jay had a same day procedure at Lourdes Camden. Everyone from start to finish was great - pleasant, informative and caring. From DeMaris who created us to our surgeon Dr. Green walid, Donna from anesthesia the OR team. Recovery Claire and Lauren all great. Thanks all!"
"After waiting for four hours at another (non-Virtua) emergency room, I decided to head to Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes instead and it was absolutely the right decision. Each person we encountered -- registration, patient access, nursing -- was kind and attentive. Dr. Nicole Tyczynska was especially great. She had to have been busy, but we were still made to feel like a priority and that our needs mattered. It might not be the newest, shiniest hospital -- and I know renovations are in the works -- but the care, quality, and staff are all outstanding. Thank you!"
