UPMC Hillman Cancer Center - McCandless (Medical Oncology)

"My step dad had stage 4 lung cancer 4 years back and he was treated at Hillman Cancer Center by Dr. Leavy where their treatment plan and expertise worked amazingl. To our great surprise and even the doctors, they were able to get all of the cancer during surgery. 3 years in remission! My father is currently being cared for at Hillman Cancer Center by Dr. Stephanie Kim consulting with specialist Dr. Farah for a rare Lymphoblastic Lymphoma. He has completed 4 treatments and just yesterday when we met with Dr. Farah for preparing to cure my father with a stem cell transplant, he informed us he is in remission. Although this is great news the next step is the stem cell transplant that is very involved but outcomes are super encouraging. I also personally have begun to see Dr. Stephanie Kim for anemia. I have recently had 3 treatments of iron via intravenously and I know I'm in great hands for my healthcare needs. I personally have had nothing but the utmost care, surgeries, treatments and doctors via UPMC alone but they are top notch Hillman Cancer Center. Thank you for saving my step dad's and continuing to save my father's life. ❤️❤️❤️"

"I am disappointed with the experiences I have had at the Cancer Institute. The staff is very nice, however, all three of my visits-which were checkups took almost 2 1/2 hours - waiting in the waiting room and also in the exam room. I am a patient person, but all three visits were like this and I had morning appointments. In addition, my physician did not have my blood results on his chart and told me that his staff should have been calling me if my counts were stable, so my steroid could be reduced. Which I didn't get any calls from them. Then post my third visit, I called two weeks later as physician told me to do, and it took three phone calls to get someone to call me back with my steroid dosage. This only occurred because the front desk felt bad I hadn't had a return call as I also needed an antibiotic. If the practice has too many patients to handle, then have the courtesy to let me know to go elsewhere."
