"I was in charge of a deceased family members estate. The lawyer sent me to Guy Financial to do the estate taxes. It was a simple estate and not a complicated tax return. He charged use a crazy amount of money for the service performed. I would say 4 X what it should have cost. I took the finished returns to a couple of other accountants that I work with and they were shocked at the fees. When it comes to estates everyone thinks it’s free money and they can take advantage."
"This person came to our office, signed an engagement letter and left us to compete her joint tax return. After completion of the return, she refused to pay for the service and called the local police. The county sheriff nicely informed her she had hired us and should pay before picking up. The return was done correctly but the taxpayer requested we ignore an important tax issue which we handled correctly. Also, since we have been in business for over 30 years without another negative review, I find it totally ludicrous that Google would post such a comment without allowing the business to answer. So much for fair and balanced. Thanks for all the support of our current tax and accounting clients and I welcome your comments."
"Worst experience in my life in any professional service. We are new to Maryland and newly retired from the military. I called to make an appointment for a consultation, just like I would at a law firm as we bought a house and plan on using someone long term. I was told there would be no fee. I felt things were off from the get go. The “secretary” seemed fearful of answering any questions without “calling me back”. Even the time and date of the appointment. No fee schedule for tax prep was given without “calling me back”. Once I got to the office it was clear she was unable to perform the simplest of duties (printing an email attachment) without contemp from Mr. Guy. The office is old and shabby, no big deal. The secretary gave me a form to fill out about what I was there for. Ok. Tax prep. I briefly scanned form, and, signed and dated. MISTAKE! Next I get to meet with Mr. Guy. I want to talk to him, but he wants to do all the talking. I brought my previous years returns, W2’s, and a few other things. He says “let’s see what you have there”. While I’m talking he’s plugging in numbers. I’m asking tax questions and he’s replying “I’m not talking about that”. He tells me what I owe. Whoa, I’m not finished. Every question I have, he says abrumptly brushes me off. So, i say thanks, take my files walking to the door and ask him what’s next if I decide to move forward. He says he’ll do the return and file electronically. I already have an appointment with another CPA tomorrow. I realize that he did not give all of my forms back and call his office to retrieve them. They inform me that I’ll have to PAY to get them back. That I have to pay him for the consult as he had looked at my files and had already done work on them. I literally had to call the St. Mary’s Sherriff Department to come out. He never came out of his office to speak to me but instead sent his wife out who wanted to argue! I repeatedly told her I wasn’t interested in a “discussion”, that I just wanted to retrieve all my paperwork (Why give me part of it when I left and keep some) I ended up having to pay the fee due to the small paragraph at the bottom of the FORM I signed at check in. Sleazy, rude, unprofessional and the reason I decided not to use him was that even after I prompted him, he never asked me about my 401k contributions or our savings and investment accounts. Worst CPA experience ever. If you want to be treated rudely and shown no professionalism. This is your place."
