"Our cat, Polly Pocket, needed a FHO surgery. We live 2 hours away but chose OSU Vet to perform her surgery due to their outstanding reputation. And since Polly has cerebeller hypoplasia, we wanted the best care and understanding about her condition. Dr. Yoon, Vet Tech Hannah, and everyone else involved for Polly were beyond excellent! From the moment we entered the hospital, we were greeted with friendly faces. We didn't feel rushed, nor felt un-heard after all the questions we had. After the operation, they called several times to update us on everything which was very comforting for this worried fur momma! The next day we were able to take Polly home. They went over in full detail about post-op care and medications. Hopefully we won't have any pets needing surgery again but if we do, we will 100% chose OSU Vet again!"
"I am very saddened to be writing this review. As a member of the vet community and former OSU grad, I have always held OSUVMC in very high esteem. It was always the place you go for top notch care and a supportive experience. When my own pet needed emergency care in November, I didn’t hesitate to take her to OSU over my own former employer, Medvet, due to this reputation. Sadly, the experience was anything but supportive. My dog ended up being in the ICU for 3 days during which time I was refused visitation rights. From the moment we brought her in the door of the ER, we never once saw even a photo of her until we picked her up. Being in the veterinary field myself with extensive experience, I am well informed to options for care. I understand OSU is where you go for top level care, but even after pushing for alternative treatments and voicing financial concerns, I was refused any paired down version of care because it was hospital policy to only do it one way. I understand that may be the case in some medical scenarios but my dog was stable and costs could have been contained better. After 3 days of refusing visitation and several thousands in treatments, I elected to pick up my dog to take her somewhere else for second opinion. After evaluation at another clinic, she was given the green light for safe treatment at home, when OSU wanted to keep her in the ICU for 2 more weeks. Luckily, we were able to get her the needed treatments to heal while caring for her at home and saving costs. At the time of pickup, we had a credit on our account for around $1400. The staff told me it is hospital policy to refund all clients via physical check in the mail and it would take 5-6 weeks to arrive. I was shocked by this as I’ve worked for several specialists and ERs who were able to refund via card within normal timelines. We also were not finished with treatment and $1400, at this point, could have made a huge difference in whether we would be able to continue treatment. This happened on November 30th. It is now February and I have yet to receive any communication or refund from OSU. I have attempted to call their accounting department every day for the last 2 weeks and am met with a voicemail each time, to which you never receive a call back. I have also emailed without response. 9 weeks have gone by and I cannot get a single person on the phone or even email to ask about the status of my refund. I will soon be seeking legal counsel on how to assist in receiving my funds. This experience has completely turned me off to OSUVMC. While the doctors and staff are fantastic in their medicine and bedside manner, the overall hospital policies have left me feeling disappointed. As someone who has both been a student and a client, OSUVMC was always a wonderful place delivering a wonderful client experience but it seems to have changed for the worse. I never once got the feeling that the client’s experience was taken into consideration. Much like human healthcare, the patient was all that mattered. That’s wonderful from a clinical perspective, but you must also consider that in veterinary medicine the owner is also the client and their experience and needs also need to be seen. That did not occur. OSUVMC- Please do better. Veterinary medicine requires compassion, something I know you used to have. My heart is breaking for all the clients who inevitably come through your doors and don’t have vet med experience to advocate for their pets the way I did. I fear without that knowledge my pet would have had a much worse outcome due to inabilities to communicate effectively and strict hospital policies limiting client decision making. Please note: this review is not a reflection of hospital staff. I realize hospital policy is a burden they carry and many times they take the brunt of client concerns. That is not my intention in this review. ER staff, CSRs, and DVMs were all wonderful outside those limitations."
"We recently brought our cat into OSU after exposure to lily toxin and it was immediately clear that OSU has some of the leading renal specialists and treatment methods in the country. Our cat had to stay at the center for a couple of days and during that time, the doctors were extremely communicative - the information they provided was clear and targeted to a non-specialist audience, making it easier to understand our pet’s diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. All of the staff, students, and doctors (especially Dr Paschall and Emma) were amazing with us and with Oyster during a very stressful and scary time. They made us feel comfortable leaving our beloved pet in their care. Our subsequent follow-up visit was likewise very easy; everyone we worked with was so helpful. We could not be happier with how our pet was treated and would highly recommend OSU!"
"My female cat Ruby was diagnosed with Pyometra which was treated with emergency surgery here a few weeks ago. Everyone I came into contact with was wonderful. I’m thankful for everyone that took care of Ruby! I must mention one person that stood out. Alex at the front desk made me feel at ease from the moment I walked in and was very friendly and helpful. I was impressed by the level of customer service provided by Alex. It was explained that there are students learning here. I couldn’t even tell you who was a student. They were all professional and did an amazing job. Dr. Hilborn did an amazing job and was quick to communicate back to me. Communication was great all around. I was called multiple times to let me know how Ruby was doing after surgery. When I was waiting in the exam room to pick her up, I could hear several people saying goodbye to Ruby as they were walking through the halls. That made me happy. I know that she was treated very well during her stay and that was comforting to know. The pricing was reasonable as well. I would highly recommend them to anyone in need of emergency care for their pets!"
"Is there a way to give these wonderful humans 10 stars? Because they deserve that and so much more! My husband and I found a very injured, very sweet cat in our neighborhood and wanted to help him. After driving around to different rescues and being turned away by all of them, we came here. From the time we pulled up to the front we were treated so warmly. They gave us an emergency label so we could be assisted faster since the little guy was bleeding. I wrapped him in a towel and headed inside while my husband parked. He was so scared and tried multiple times to jump out of my arms, and the staff saw this and within 30 seconds was leading to a room so he could be safe. Amazing!! And within 10 minutes they were taking him back to be cared for and assuring us they would get him fixed up to be adopted to a good home! These people are angels who really care. It shows in the way they treat the animals and the people. Thank you so so much OSU staff!!!"
