"No TV. No USB ports. Not even an elevator. Yep, I was on the 4th floor. But this historic hotel does not disappoint. Clean rooms. Fantastic fireplace and lounge in lobby. Excellent restaurant. Close to Dupont Circle. Rooms are historically decorated, clean and comfortable. If you're one of those amenity-needy peeps this ain't for you. But if you want something new, cool and different stay here!!"
"Funny little stay in DC. My daughter lives around corner but no dogs allowed in her building. 1/26/2023 The check in was utilitarian. (think european) When I asked about how to utilize outside parking there was no information provide. BTW You pay for two hours until 6:30 pm and leave the paper ticket from the meter in your car window. The alternative was $50.00 a night at the adjacent hotel deck, we were not offered a discount by being guests of the Tabard. The hotel has no tv (like that) or elevators and this was disclosed at booking. To access room we walked through the dining room and bar every time with our dogs, (not ideal). Our room 53 overlooked N Street & has an open bathroom with a sheer curtain and three additional openings in the claw tub shower to the bedroom area. On check out I inquired if there were rooms with bathroom doors for a future stay, the response was “we have rooms that have bathroom doors” This inquiry did not appear to amuse or engage the person checking us out. The bed had what appeared to be a thin comforter on it, and we were promptly brought blankets on request. I guess I usually stay at locations that offer fluffy comforters and extra blankets already in the closet. We did appreciate receiving the blankets. The decor is eclectic bordering on “um, what exactly is that piece of art or furniture?” Kinda cool that the inn is historic and quirky. The location is really good and rather subdued for the noise of a Friday night especially compared to noisy massachusetts or other major street in DC. It’s hard to leave less than a stellar review but I’m weirded out by the open bathroom and sheer curtain instead of a door. Thankfully I was with my daughter so it was ok but not comfortable. If anyone at the location has an opportunity to read this I really hope you share with guests that they are going to be walking their dogs through your restaurant and there is potentially no door on the bathroom. It would be nice to greeted by a smile checking in or out. I will say the restaurant staff was very courteous every time we walked through and there were many smiles. It’s probably the dogs lol, I guess people don’t always illicit smiles. Also please put a more substantial comforter on the bed. Thanks for the stay, you have a pretty cool place. Potential Hotel Guest advice: If you need a bathroom door you might want to ask for a room with one. You might inquire if you are going to walk through restaurant to get to your room. Also parking on N street requires you put the paper ticket from the meter in the front of your car window. We did have a wonderful time in DC and staying in Dupont Circle is really nice walking."
"Sadly we did not have very good experience. We were met by a very unfriendly and unhelpful receptionist in the evening who made us feel unwelcome. In addition while the hotel is pretty cool the bedroom we stayed was freezing in the bathroom and had noisy external venting system right outside that made it difficult to sleep. I asked about it and her reply was ‘nobody has every complained about this before’ (as if it was my fault) and that it would be ‘turning off soon’, which of course it didn’t and operated 24 hours a day. Great place for a meal and meet up not so good as a hotel."
"We stopped in for a drink on our walk home as the Christmas garlands and outside were reminiscent of old fashioned Christmas. The walk through the first room with the fire place was very pleasant- dark wood, full seats with happy convo. It was a great first impression. We sat at the little, dark wooded bar. The staff walking around were curt and grumpy with each other (noticeable as we made comments to ourselves about it) but we enjoyed our own company so we didn’t let it interrupt our night. Food smelled amazing. We each had one ounce pour of the Angel’s Envy Rye as it’s our favorite- tasted perfect as it does. No niceties or welcoming conversation or anything special from staff while there, which was fine. Like I said we enjoyed each other’s company. Bill? $77 for our two, once ounce pours. We were quite disappointed as typically if you pay that much for one, neat drink, you receive more attention, ambiance, and a special feeling. We will not only not recommend this location to our international and local friends but will encourage them to not waste their time and money. We were quite disappointed."
"What an amazing piece of history to stay in. The hotel was gorgeous and you could feel all 100 plus years in every aspect of the hotel. This isn't a fancy hotel with tons of amenities, but it has so much heart. The staff was fantastic and the restaurant was excellent. The bed was super comfy too. I'll definitely be back."
