Black Yield Institute is a Pan-African power institution based in Baltimore, Maryland, dedicated to cultivating self-determination through Black land and food sovereignty. Located at 844 Roundview Road, the institute serves as a think tank and collective action network that addresses food apartheid, seeking to empower Black communities in reclaiming their access to land and healthy food options.

The institute recently announced the release of the first two offerings in their Living Concept Book Series, aimed at expanding knowledge of key concepts necessary for the struggle toward Black Land and Food Sovereignty. The first book, "On Food Apartheid: Seeing the Problem," delves into the sociopolitical phenomena surrounding food disparities rooted in race and class, providing historical and contemporary perspectives on the nuances of food apartheid. The second book, "On Black Land and Food Sovereignty: Projecting the Solution," explores how the movement framework of Black Land & Food Sovereignty can address the insidious nature of food apartheid and empower communities through food and land sovereignty.

In addition to their educational initiatives, Black Yield Institute also operates the Cherry Hill Market, where produce sourced from the Cherry Hill Urban Community Garden is sold to community members at reasonable prices. This market also provides a space for local vendors to sell goods to the community, further supporting Black economic empowerment.

Through their collaborative work with Black people and entities, Black Yield Institute aims to build independent power and serve as an incubator for ideas and projects that promote liberation through food. Their multi-year report, "We Got 5 On It," highlights the evolution of their work from 2015 to 2020, showcasing the impact and growth of the institution over the years. As a Black-led institution rooted in Afrocentric, Pan-African, and human rights frameworks, Black Yield Institute continues to strive towards creating a more just and equitable food system for Black communities in Baltimore and beyond.
