"HIGHLY RECOMMENDED UNIVERSITY. Coppin State University stands the test of the citadel of academic excellence. All my professors were PhD holder. The professors are experienced, knowledgeable, and very approachable. The students teacher ratio is very impressive. Magnificent campus and numerous computer labs. Graduated with a bachelor's degree."
"Coppin is one of the worst HBCU in America. Their administration departments gives the worst quality assistance to the students. If you call them by phone they never answer or respond to their voice mails. They aren’t as invested into seeing their students be successful than most other colleges. And they wonder why people choose higher education colleges over HBCUs."
"This is a nice college. Since I just graduated from CCBC Catonsville, I have applied here and I like it so far. The administrators are nice and Coppin has nice environments. Please note I am amazed that Subway restaurant is there as well as the grillhouse cafe, dining room at Talon Center, and yes big buildings."
"possibly overshadowed by other HBCUs, COPPIN is a key part of the rich black history that is Baltimore. If we invest in it, it will be a part of the city’s rich future. I dropped by to find ~10 students playing tennis the bookstore was nice the newer buildings with the fancy bridge show well"
"I worked here for 4 years. It was the not a good experience for me. I am a student advocate first and foremost. The students here need more support and Coppin was not prepared to provide it. Students regularly fell through the Coppin system. The retention and graduation rates clearly reflect these challenges. There are positives - some very talented and caring faculty and staff who want only the best for the students. However — they are far outnumbered by staff and faculty more concerned about appearances and less concerned about outcomes and assessment. Some are simply not qualified to do the work they are expected to do. There is a new Science & Technology Building — really fantastic! The number of buildings in poor condition considerably outnumber the improvements. Coppin tends to be the most affordable 4-year institution in Maryland - a very good thing for students who complete their degree programs. However — even affordability cannot justify education debt for the high percentage of students who do not complete their programs in 6 years. Top administration has been a revolving door. In my 4 years, I had 6 supervisors. I saw 2 presidents, 3 provosts, 4 people manage the Enrollment Management division. There is potential — that’s why I listed ‘2 stars’. However - with time I am less optimistic Coppin will rise above the challenges."
