"The classes are challenging. There is a lot of work. The price is reasonable. The opportunities are boundless. That's what school is supposed to be - and the fact that this can all be done virtually is amazing. Is it perfect? No, but no school is perfect. We were quite pleased with our child's experience."
"Absolutely the worst school I've ever attended in my life. They bombard you with school work, and when you ask for help they never get back to you. The history teacher accused me for plagiarism, even though I sited my work. Thank god my mom has a maters degree in English, and has written many books. She was so angry when she saw that. If I could give this school a zero I would. Considering it is expensive, and you get a bad experience. Plus, there seems to be no end date. It's literally July and this school is still giving me work. I completed everything, until I decided to check my emails. I went onto my profile and see overdue assignments that weren't there yesterday. I thought school ended on June 24th, then the math teacher said the 30th, and the history teacher said the 28th. I thought school was supposed to end on 1 specific day, but I guess I was wrong. Extremely disappointing experience."
"Not sure why the bad reviews. We have been through K12 Private and public. They are very similar, but a little more flexibility and time zone issues with the private option. We have used k12 in 2017, 2019-2022 and have never had any complaints. Our children learn more through k12 than they did in connections academy (purchased by Pearson), and their UI is great for the kids. The app is great for the parents and learning coaches. Our kids have excelled in k12 compared to level 10 schools in Bay Area, CA, 9 schools in Sacramento CA area, and level 9-10 charters in Las Vegas. Intellectually, they get a TON of value. The system has been easy to navigate. It's a little bare bones on curriculum if you're looking for a robust education. There's ELA, Math, History, Science and optional Art and Music (which is mostly theory). This curriculum is better than most in person schools we have been to in 3 states. We have had no issues with the teachers, the tuition, or the learning system. Admin has been reachable, and teachers have been helpful. We have always received all of our materials with a packing list. We get more through K12 than any other program (Pearson doesn't send textbooks). We are happy. Ask more parents online, because most parents have a great experience. In regards to previous reviews, the curriculum has never been hard for our kids, so maybe each family has had previous districts with lower expectations. My kids can finish early on most Fridays, and have never felt overwhelmed. They're actually happy that they're learning during school time and don't have homework after school. They have at least 2-3 live classes 4 days a week. Fridays are typically light which is great for family field trips. There are always and have always been live face to face classes, so I don't know why a parent said there isn't. Regarding CAVA vs. Private, we have done that too. There's almost zero difference. the teachers teach kids from all over, so kids meet others from different regions. That's the only difference. Regarding the parent who said you can't get a hold of admin, we always get a response within 24 hours. The parent who mentioned optional classes: That is just how they label the online courses in Private because kids can attend live or watch the replay. The only optional classes are the open help sessions and social sessions. Every other class is part of their regular curriculum. All you have to do is ask the teacher to clarify this. They keep this flexibility because many kids in private academy are actors or athletes and need the flexibility of a replay session. Our kids have done online school in grades 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 peppered with some time in public schools where they continually had issues with staff shortages, bullying, and overcrowded schools that kept transferring our kids. This is in 4 districts and 2 states. k12 is a wonderful option. Our kids are scoring above average and 1 child is autistic and testing at genius level. Maybe our kids find it easier due to their academic level. I am not sure how the workload is for kids who need extra help or are falling behind. For tutoring, we had 1 student fall behind when we took a semester of a charter school. She needed an outschool.com tutor to help her catch up, and is now on par with her peers. She fell behind when we left K12, and is now doing great since she came back. If anything, we fear the autistic kid would have issues in person, the pandemic might send them home again, and schools in person these days are riddled with bullying, social media challenges, and shootings. We are glad that k12 is an option for us and have never experienced any of the issues (in 5 years) in these Google reviews."
"This needs a zero, but it isn't offered. My son went from an honors student to a failing student. Just not workable and very hard to get adequate support without paying additional money for tutoring. Took a long time to get transcripts so he could be withdrawn. Still being charged tuition every month."
"Buyer Beware! This school should not be accredited. We only got one textbook and all of my sons classes were optional? There were no opportunities to engage face to face and he sunk into a deep depression being so disconnected. We are still fighting to obtain his accurate transcripts and the school mischarged us for two months because they dragged their feet during the withdraw process while they kept charging me. This school should be shut down and is dangerously negligent. I only gave one star because you couldn't give a zero."
