Reviews of Roberto Clemente Middle School
"I personally go to this school and the people here are very fun and some are very supporting. While it does have it's flaws, the teachers are a good amount of strict, and I find I learn a lot everyday. This is a great school, but some changes could be made in the hallways and stuff. Although I dislike the decision to move the Humanities program to MLK, I understand that our school is overcrowded and this will help us population-wise. Okay bye now thank you for your time"
"I personally go to this school in the magnet program, and there's a whole lot of mixed stuff going on. The staff is mediocre, but there are some exceptions that truly care about the happiness and education of us students. If you want to go to this school, be careful about bullying problems-I feel there's not one day when there isn't a fight in the school hallways. People call each other obnoxious and obscene words like they say it on a daily basis, and there is barely anything done with it. But despite the negative things, the magnet programs are good and the teachers are mostly kind and considerate. I would recommend you go to this school if you wish to attend a program, but otherwise than that this school shouldn't be your first choice."
"I was here as part of the magnet math science and computer science program. This school was a big part of my life but I can't say I liked it. This was my home school, so I didn't expect it to be some amazing dream school but I was still slightly let down. The Pros: Like other reviews, I have to say the magnet program is fairly good. They give lots of great opportunities and amazing field trips. About half of the non magnet kids are nice, and get along. I have to say the music department is great too. Although I haven't taken any music classes at my time there, the teachers know what they're doing and the students are talented. There are also some really good teachers in there. Geometry teacher plays good banjo. The Cons: The main reason I didn't like my time here was because of the other students. They were incredibly distruptive and they had fights in the hallway everyday. This was the main reason I was so determined not to go to my home high school. The administration try their best to control them, but it doesn't work. Lunch was a nightmare. My last year there, they started a fighting ring in the bathroom in the middle of class. Multiple times a year, fights get huge, and teachers have had to get medical attention because of them. The teachers have also started getting worse. Sometimes they don't care about students and don't give help when the students OR their parents ask. I have had a couple teachers have no idea what they are 'teaching' and get everything online. I did learn from this school even though it's environment was very hard to work in. I now go to the Science Math and Computer Science program at Poolesville High School and it is heaven compared to Clemente. TLDR: Magnet and music programs are good, some kids are bad. Some staff don't do their job properly. Make sure you are prepared for the rough environment."
"The administration last year was definitely for the worse. Thankfully, we have a new principal, eighth grade administrator, etc. I am proud to say that we've improved. But that doesn't change much. No more than two weeks ago, I witnessed a teacher walk right past a fight. Although it was broken up eventually, it caused a lot of students to be late to their classes as well. I had advisory, so I was fine, but many students will still be blamed for being late. And riddle me this. What does a middle schooler even have to fight about? Pretty much, nothing. Most of the teachers are okay. Ranging from excellent to just barely teaching. It's my last year here, but I hope changes can be made. And despite contrary belief, not all of the non-Program kids are bad. The majority, sure. But there are the rare few who are easy to be able to befriend. The programs are great, and so are (most) of the teachers teaching them. However, recently, I have heard of a rumor to let non-Programs kids to attend Program classes. According to the rumor, students who are at a high enough skill level can take MAGNET classes. I beg of you. The administration, the teachers, please don't make this a thing. The Program kids went through hard work, preparing applications, taking tests, to be put into these programs. If all you have to do is be smart enough, then what's the purpose of me taking an hour-long bus ride just to attend your school? What's the purpose of me even applying, if all it takes is for me to be smart enough? Program kids worked hard to attend this school, this program. Please make it something worth working for. -- Sincerely, A dissatisfied eighth grader."
"As many other reviews stated, the teachers are generally decent, but the administration only cares about their paycheck. Our "proud" principal can be found in her office napping. The magnet program is what keeps the school from collapsing, raising test scores, and boosting popularity. There is also lack of staff and space. The lack of a computer science teacher, and dozens of classrooms with no teachers confirm this. There is not enough room for certain classes to do anything, with only small desks and little to no group work. But the school does have its upsides, mostly fun classes, like rock band, art, media production, etc. Overall the school is about 2/5 stars."
