"My two oldest sons attended The Hyrbrid Academy at CHLG when they were in Kindergarten and 1st grades before we had to move away from DC, sadly. I can highly recommend the experience we had for the 2 years while there. I chose it because I desired something similar to a homeschool experience, but our family chose not to homeschool part time, partially not wanting to be fully in charge of the curriculum, partially wanting professional educators involved, partially wanting my children to experience a bit of out of the house school with children their age. Others consider The Hybrid Academy for different reasons, but I was quite happy with the 3 teachers we had over the 2 school years. (K for 2 different boys and 1st for only the oldest boy if that makes sense.) My son still talks about his teacher from a year and a half ago, because she really emphasized finding ways to make Kindergarten fun. The assignments for home invariably used Nerf guns or jumping. They did not over-assign the homeschool days, which I appreciated. All class sizes are less 10 or less people. The director, Martha Herndon, really has a passion for the school and is gifted with keeping it running smoothly. And the Christian worldview plays into most every subject, which I find to helpfully back up what I teach them AND the way I would teach them at home. The community aspect is really good since it's small - you really end up knowing to some extent every family there. It is Hybrid so there is a significant amount of work for the parents, but that is to be expected! For the Hill, the facilities are great! I wish I had known what a gem I had in this small Hybrid Academy while I lived there. I hope writing this review will make someone else appreciate it more WHILE on the Hill!"
"After initially wanting to exclusively homeschool my daughter, I thought better of it because I doubted my ability to teach her on my own. So I began praying (literally) for a place to send her to school. Along came Capitol Hill Learning Group! It checked all of my "Must Have" boxes: (1) It has a two-day per week homeschool component where your child is taught by you at home, so I am still able to play a part in her day-to-day education. (2) The Christian world view plays into everything taught at the school - very important for me. (3) The class sizes are smaller, allowing the teachers to give an appropriate amount of attention to each student. (4) It is easily accessible from where I live. (5) The parents and teachers work together to form a sort of "community/cooperative", which is much nicer than being one in hundreds of unknown parents. The only reason I didn't give the school five stars is because the three school days only last four hours each (from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.). I wish the days were a bit longer for many reasons. Other than that, all great comments! My son is now a first-timer at the school as well, so we are a CHLG family all the way!"
"My daughter just finished her first year at CHLG. She was in the 2-3 year old program. She LOVED it. The school, curriculum, parents, teachers, classrooms were fantastic. We were lucky enough to have Ms. Bridget and could not imagine a better teacher. I would HIGHLY recommend CHLG preschool program."
"My son attended pre-school here last year and will be back for a second year this fall. Capitol Hill Learning Group is a warm, Christ-centered, academic community. My son thrived under the guidance of CHLG's outstanding teachers and staff. I recommend this school most highly!"
"My daughter just finished her first year in the preschool program. I was amazed by all the preparation her teacher put into lesson plans and resources for the kids to use. Every day my little 3-year-old was creatively learning her letters and numbers through well planned-out crafts and games and fun circle times. She also got to enjoy music and art and outdoor play. The environment was safe, encouraging, fun, and yet academically challenging as well. We are definitely coming back next year!"
