Max's Allegheny Tavern

"Max's was recommended by a local when we were in town for a recent vacation. It did not disappoint! The food was great and the service was excellent! When my partner mentioned that it was her birthday, her dessert came out with a candle! If I lived in Pittsburgh, I would want this to be my neighborhood bar."

"I am sad, disappointed and dispirited to report that the lunch experience here today was dismal, just like the rain outside. Service was slow, my fish sandwich was almost warm, and my friend's meal didn't taste right. It's never a fun experience to not feel welcome, and for as much service attention we received, well, I had to get up and get my own extra napkins, which is fine, I'm able to get up and look for napkins. But I did that because our server wasn't available. I have been coming to this restaurant for over thirty years, and for all kinds of family events. This is the first time ever, that I have nothing good to say about my visit. I don't usually post this kind of review, but honestly, I'm not sure I want to come back, and unfortunately, this feels like the new norm. Heavy sigh. This is also not the first time things haven't been great, but could be overlooked. After today, there wasn't anything good to say. I'm really sorry that this was true for our visit."

"This is a landmark neighborhood bar in Deutschtown. The atmosphere is a step back in time, the service is on point and the jukebox belts out quintessential Americana tunes. The Rueben is one of the best I’ve ever had and the beer is deliciously cold. Must visit!"

"A great find for lovers of German food served in a cozy tavern setting. Veal is not common on local menus so nice to find here. The very large cuts at reasonable prices was offset by low quality veal however. Nonetheless, a good find. The player “piano”is unique in that it combines the piano with an accordion, drums, cymbals, and horn to create a self-contained band."

"Went there for authentic pierogis. And Max’s didn’t disappoint. Very cool atmosphere. The brat wasn’t the best but I’ve been to Germany recently and have high standards for that."
