Reviews of KidsPeace
"Being locked up isn't fun but I needed help and that place did that for me. The majority of the staff and nurses just wanna help and support u. like all places there were some bad staff but the majority of them only want to help you. We did some really helpful therapys and some really cool activities. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone wanting to get help."
"i stayed here for around 2 weeks. those days barely helped. my psychiatrist that made my treatment plan barely let me speak on how i felt about all the stuff about my safety. for my weeks there, we went outside like 3 times. staff were fun which is a plus. they respect pronouns, names, and such. but i remember this one time, we were getting scolded and one nurse said “if you change your name in the middle of your stay, we won’t call you it”. or something like that. i feel as if the kids in there helped more than the nurses. most of the therapy/groups didn’t help."
"This place IS horrendous. I was there in 1999. I was in foster care in another state and had no available placements so KP is where I ended up. They made no plans for my release. The day after I turned 18 they dumped me and my 8 suitcases off at a shelter in Delaware. I saw a doc (male psychiatrist) twice in 4 months for 10 minutes each. He diagnosed me with self mutilation and 12 other "issues" that the STAFF disagreed with. My ear piercings were the only alterations to my body and that was done when I was an infant. I had no therapy, group or individual; no medication for my preexisting diabetes. I was told I was dressed inappropriately (jeans and sweatpants everyday) but they made no attempts to get me appropriate clothing. My roommates stole from me and assaulted me. Nothing was ever done. I was made to go to school and forced to take and retake tests even though I had already graduated prior to my admittance. I was restrained and injured by 2 male staff members in a side hallway for refusing to make my bed and give an explanation of why I didn't make my bed. (Try explaining to male strangers that you still wet the bed!) I tried to walk off beforehand and was dragged hog style to the side hallway. The staff found it funny to drive at night over the one-way covered bridges at high speeds with the van lights out. I was not allowed to call or write home. They refused to allow me to put a hair relaxer in my already previously relaxed hair. I have had them every 2-3 months for 7 years at that point. Without the regular maintenance my hair fell out. The staff called themselves inventorying my belongings when I came in. I had 8 suitcases of various sizes they allowed me to keep in my room only after destroying the necklines and waistbands excessively marking them with Sharpies. I could go on and on but you get my point and see the pattern. I still remember everything and it's been over 20 years! Kidspeace is a disgrace. I am forever traumatized."
"During my time here around 2005ish There were 3 female workers on morning to mid-day shifts going around sleeping with male patients. Megan, Angela, and izzy. And 1 female on night-shift not sure of her name. Doing the same. 3 out of 5 because honestly they were hot"
"I was brought in as a patient here right after 1999. I was brought in because my single mother said I swung a golf club at my older brother and little sister. This story was completely fabricated. The EMS drivers and staff knew it because of my confused behavior. My siblings did say that, that wasn't what happened. To be fair I broke a sled with a golf club, that was all. The first night I was there I slept in the common room by my self where all the couches were and the front desk of that section was monitored. The next day I was given a room with a kid younger than me named Alex who was a year younger than me. This next part still haunts me to this day. Alex had woken me up (going into my 2nd night) I don't remember what he was saying or anything, but next thing I know he had slit his throat. He was there for suicidal threats. He was there for suicidal threats and the staff did not check him for anything. Almost 25 years later I still am scarred by this. I was released 8 days later after that. My mom never knew about this. Or at least she told me 11 years ago she didn't know. Idk, this isn't easy or has been easy to talk about. So I chose to stay anonymous."
