"Travelling along the main road, the Shenandoah Canal is a wonderful sight when visiting Harpers Ferry. While many may find the algae off-putting, it is a natural and healthy part of ecosystem in maintaining a fresh environment for the local fauna. That said, many species of wildlife are typically found along the canal, such as ducks, geese, heron, turtles, and sometimes deer."
