"Great little park. How cool is it to be able to be able to stand at the headwaters of the mighty Potomac river. Today it may have just looked like a trickle, but still mighty things often start small."
"If history of the region interests you back to the 1740βs then stop here to learn how the English crown decided who would be in charge of lands north and south of the Potomac River"
"Hype....and more hype. Roadside markers allow you a sense of adventure searching for this stone landmark, but when you get there you, like I was, will be underwhelmed. Highly historical in nature there is not just one Fairfax stone marker, but there appears to be two. One from the 17th-18th century and another state line marker etched with "1910". Intriguing to say the least...one visit is enough."
"Wonderful piece of history. The fact that Lord Fairfax owed over 5,000,000 acers known as Northern Neck Proprietary and includes places like Berkeley Springs Spa is incredible. If you're visiting Blackwater Falls or Canaan Valley and enjoy history this is a nice, quick stop. The park is well maintained and has areas to lay a blanket down and enjoy a picnic or use one of the picnic tables. There are no facilities at this park. We were the only ones there when we visited and our 5 year old son and dogs enjoyed running around while we read about the history."
"An interesting bit of history that I learned about a long time ago in school. The Fairfax Stone was great to see and it doubles as the head spring to the Potomac River. Plus a neat little area to have a picnic and walk the dog. Not too far off of the beaten path and a nice place to visit."
