"Called in yesterday to inquire about a 20k loan. Though I was approved for 12k, the customer service representative "Ashley" was very rude & condescending. She did not seem interested in helping me to apply for a loan. During our phone call, her words to me were "You applied for a 20,000 dollar loan?"(Mind you, she hasn't even run my credit yet). After minutes of being on the phone with Ashley, I told her to withdraw my application. Immediately after withdrawing my application, Ashley decided to finally run my credit and send me a confirmation email, those of the things she was supposed to do after I actually applied for the loan. She knew that she didn't take my application seriously so she tried to backtrack to cover herself. I finally called back and expressed my concerns to a supervisor by the name of "Holly". Holly told me that she didn't believe my complaint was true because "that's not like Ashley". A simple "I will look into the situation" would have been perfectly fine to at least pretend that she cared. The prejudice that black women have to experience when applying for a loan is never surprising, but always an inconvenience. I am VERY sure that if Ashley thought that she was speaking with one of my white counterparts, she would taken my application seriously and completed all of the required steps before I withdrew my application. However, upon hearing a black woman's voice, Ashley did not seem to see my application as a priority."
