"ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT CONTRACTS ARE LIKE USED CAR DEALS! Beware! In retrospect, I feel a little hustled. I chose Dr Martin because he is an In-Network provider with Delta Dental. Our contract with Dr Martin was for a 2-year plan for a 12 year old child, total cost $6,500, of which the contract estimated $2,000 would come from insurance. I didn't realize that the $6,500 is negotiable until I visited another orthodontist's office... Also, I should have been suspicious that Dr Martin's office would offer the contract without even getting pre-authorization from my dental insurance, in which case they would have known that the deductible was actually $2,500. According to the Delta Dental claims, we may have overpaid as much as $1,250. To his credit, Dr Martin eventually reimbursed us $500 after we brought the discrepancy to his attention months later. However, our child's teeth are more crooked than ever after many months of uncomfortable treatment and thousands of dollars."
