Reviews of Monica Dargan, DMD
"Two things: 1. I arrived at my appointment to learn that the hygienist would clean my teeth but that I would have to return at a different date for a basic dental exam with Dr. Dargan. In their office, "an appointment" doesn't consist of a cleaning and exam—you have to schedule them / come separately (so basically four times a year! 2 dental exams and 2 cleanings). When I asked if I could have my dental exam right after cleaning for future appointments, Dr. Dargan and the receptionist were like "we normally don't do this, but we'll do this huge favor for you." This was a few years ago though; hopefully they don't operate that way anymore. 2. Despite the issue detailed above, I kept returning to Dr. Dargan for a bit (inertia, I guess). Then I was in an accident and had to get a handful of teeth crowned. It was an emergency situation. Dr. Dargan said she could do all the procedures in-house, and I trusted her. When the crowns were put in, I told her that they were too white (they were blindingly white; they looked obviously fake) and that they didn't feel comfortable. She said they looked great and that slight discomfort was normal. She also crowned my teeth in a way so that she gave me a huge gap between my front two teeth, which hadn't been there before. Even months after these crowns were put in, my gums bled when I brushed/flossed, but she said that's to be expected. Afterwards, I sought out three dentists & prosthodontists at other practices for a general exam. Without my prompting, all three said the same thing: the crowns were put in poorly (they all said something about the crowns' margins being too big, and as a result I was beginning to show early signs of gum disease), they were too white, and the gap between my front teeth wasn't necessary. I had my teeth recrowned at a different practice, and guess what? My gums don't bleed anymore. My bite feels normal again. There's not a huge gap between my front teeth. My crowned teeth look harmonious with my other teeth. Don't let Dr. Dargan take your hard-earned money (thousands of dollars!)—take your money to a dentist who knows what they're doing. TL; DR: Monica Dargan gave me gum disease instead of treating my teeth. All of this happened when I (BIPOC) was in school. I'm obviously not a patient of hers anymore. This is my first Google review; a friend implored me to write this (even though the events described happened years ago) when she, new to Pittsburgh, asked for a recommendation for a dentist and I shared my experience with Dr. Dargan at Chesnut Hills."
"Dr. Dargan is extremely rude, and yelled at her tech during my appointment. She did a root canal for me multiple years ago and I am still dealing with her incompetent work. I mentioned in a follow up that I thought the root canal was infected because it hurt and was hot to the touch and she told me 'probably not'. A year after the root canal I had another checkup and she told me that the infection had spread to my jaw. I said I had told her that I thought it was infected at the last visit and she yelled at me and terminated me as a patient. Another doctor said that the infection had reduced the bone density in my jaw and that if it had spread any further it would have infected my heart. It turns out she didn't clear out all of the infected root tissue in the original root canal. I've been dealing with the impact of that infection and her botched root canal for multiple years and have had to see 5 other various dental specialists to try to fix it and it's still a problem."
"Maybe if she worked at a different company I would recommend. Chestnut hills dental doesn't care about their clients. I wonder if Dr Dargan knitted how the office staff treats her patients? Also, to be honest, my dental work didn't meet the standards of care that I expected. I've had problems with several fillings Dargan and her team completed in the last two years. *also your reply to me is very disingenuous as I was a patient in 2018 and made many visits over the past few years to your office investing my health, money and time. Your records indicate I was a patient until very recently, so be honest. This is why my review stands. If you would like to rectify my claims please contact me the office has my contact information. We can discuss WHY I am no longer a patient."
"Following a very bad experience at another dentist’s office, I came to Dr. Dargan per recommendation of a coworker. I loved everyone at Chestnut Hills. They are professional, friendly, prompt, and listened to my concerns. Unlike other dentists, I didn’t feel like they were trying to push expensive procedures that might not be necessary. In fact, one concern I had based on my last dentist turned out NOT to be an urgent matter— this after that dental office had called me on more than one occasion to “get this scheduled.” I truly felt like they were looking out for my well-being and best interests and NOT trying to make as much money as possible. I also love that everyone I dealt with was a woman, and the office is very diverse. Highly recommend."
"It is amazing how gentle and understanding Dr. Dargan is. I recently had to have a lot of dental work done due to an accident, and she was accommodating to my schedule, understanding of my anxiety, and she has a soft touch as she does the work. I'm very grateful to the whole staff for their kindness and support!"
