Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site
About the Business
Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site, located at 2 Mark Bird Lane in Elverson, Pennsylvania, is a museum, park, and tourist attraction that showcases the early American landscape of industrial operations from 1771-1883. This site, along with other "iron plantations," played a significant role in the transformation of the United States into an industrial powerhouse during that time period. The park's 848 acres and historic structures provide a glimpse into the business, technology, and lifestyle of our nation's past.
Visitors to Hopewell Furnace can explore the Virtual Visitor Center to plan their trip and learn about the best ways to experience the site during COVID-19. They can also take a virtual tour of the historic site, learn about the iron smelting process, volunteer their time and talent, or even make their pet a B.A.R.K Ranger while visiting.
One unique feature of Hopewell Furnace is the historic orchard, where visitors can learn about the history of the site while enjoying fresh fruit. Whether you're interested in history, technology, or simply enjoying the great outdoors, there is something for everyone to discover at Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site.

Reviews
"Very interesting historical story to tell. The rangers and volunteer guides were extremely helpful. We’ll be going back this summer for some of their outdoor activities."
"October 2022 Impressive display of structures and artifacts that highlight the importance of this area during the Industrial Revolution. Wonderful way to spend a couple hours and enjoy the beautiful grounds, the animals, and the buildings, while learning about an important part of our American history."
"We had a good day at the park! Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy historic buildings, life, equipment. The furnace is a must see. It is amazing how they built this place so long ago."
"We were hiking the trails around Hopewell last November. We carried a packed lunch to eat along the trail on one of the benches. Traveled thru the village on our way. Going to go back for the tours as it is a very interesting site with lots of history."
"This is a first rate national park site. I found it very informative and educational. There is a great junior range of programs to keep kids interested. On the weekends they do demonstrations of 1800s baking and charcoal making. I suggest a minimum of 1 hour to walk around the entire site. There are ranger tours on the hour. The train is hilly but one ranger offered to drive me back up the hill in a cart."
