"This is a comment on their service, not their actual treatment. Today (March 1, 2023) for my minor child’s appointment, I had to fill out a covid questionnaire and wait in the car until they were ready for the appointment. When I tried to go in, I was kicked out and told the waiting room was for patients only. However, since patients aren’t even allowed in until the office is ready for them, this isn’t exactly true – the patients don’t sit in the waiting room. My child also had to wear a mask to walk in the door. As this is an orthodontist’s office where they have to look and work in a patient’s mouth, and no one else is allowed in the waiting room, this does not seem reasonable or necessary. When I asked several months ago what their exit strategy was (as in, when parents would be allowed in the waiting room, or not be required to wear masks) they vaguely said they were following CDC guidelines. I have never, in any other facility (including medical and military), been denied the right to be with my minor child. This is not a CDC requirement. It is also very frustrating as I always have to jump through hoops to get any indication as to how the treatment is progressing for my child. I have to specifically request an update every single time, wait for the doctor to be available and then be called inside, or someone (usually not the actual doctor) comes out to my car to give me a very brief update, and it always feels like they are trying to rush me away. Lastly, it is difficult to schedule appointments as I am not allowed in the office. My child cannot schedule these appointments as I am the one driving. This has been going on for all of COVID, and if I had not been in the middle of treatment when COVID happened, I would never have started treatment here knowing their policies. I will certainly not be using them for my other child’s orthodontic needs. Overall, this is not an office I would recommend to any parent wishing to be actively involved in their child’s treatment. Edit: As of yesterday, September 19, my son will unfortunately no longer be a patient. Dr. Frey politely asked me to take down my review and explained all his COVID precautions, reasonings, and policies. While I understand and appreciate his position, my position is that as a parent, it is my right and responsibility to be involved in the medical care of my child. I have an expectation to oversee all medical care to my child, without expecting my (then) 14 year old child to explain what’s going on in a complicated, expensive, ongoing procedure. While there were consultations, my expectation at the beginning had been that I would be there for every appointment. I was disappointed and frustrated when Dr. Frey’s policies prevented me from being in the building. This is not a reflection on his, or his staff’s services. They were at all times professional, and my child’s teeth look great. My only disappointment is the policies that were put in place during COVID. When I politely refused to remove my review, Dr. Frey indicated that my child would no longer be able to do follow up appointments in his office, but as the treatment was completed, there should be no further complications, unless for some reason we needed a new retainer (in which case I will have to seek services somewhere else). After a great deal of consideration, I will amend my one star review to a three star review to indicate that the work itself was good, however, I cannot make it a five star review as the policies that were put in place did not align with my values and expectations. I realize this is very subjective, so I am only leaving this review up for other parents who may have the same expectations as I do and who would wish to be informed should we be in the unfortunate position of having another pandemic in the future."
