"AAD's website says that they accept my insurance and I provided them with my insurance info before the appointment. At my appointment, I was told that they were actually out-of-network, but that they checked my coverage and my insurance would pay 100% of the cost (for annual dental cleaning + xray). After the appointment, I was told I would have to front the $500 fee. The insurance company only paid less than half (~$230) and sent the check to AAD. When I complained about the discrepancy, AAD said that they only provide estimates and aren't responsible if their estimates are wildly wrong (I asked if they had charged $10,000 for the appointment, would I have to pay $9,770 even after they said I owed $0...apparently yes I would). AAD also said they left my insurance company's network because the insurance wouldn't pay AADs higher fees. During my appointment, the dentist said I have three cavities and that they needed filling. I've only had two cavities my entire life (I'm in my 30s), have no pain/symptoms, and the dentist only showed me one of the cavities, so I went to another dentist for a second opinion. She could not find 2 of the cavities when looking at the xrays or my teeth (she even called AAD to confirm where the cavities were). The third cavity was so small she said it wasn't worth filling yet. The whole process felt like a scam. I'm incredibly annoyed that I had to pay $250 for a cleaning(!) that is covered by my insurance, but at least I didn't let someone destroy my teeth for two cavities that aren't there."
