"Heidi and Alison made my pregnancy care and birth extremely positive and empowering experiences. I so appreciate the work they do for our community, and highly recommend them to anyone interested in having a home birth!"
"My family had the most wonderful experience with Heidi and her team! I can’t say enough about who they are as human beings and their professionalism. I’ll be recommending them to all my friends and loved ones!"
"I reached out to Alison to assist with a homebirth. It was for my 6th baby. She turned me away because I shared that the father was being abusive. Her assistant attended with another midwife, Sybille Andersen, based in Newport. I doubt Heidi had any knowledge of this at the time as she was still an apprentice working under licensed midwives. The reason I am leaving such a negative review is because I recently revisited the Vitality website. They make the following claim: “ Your journey requires a kind of surrender like no other, and we want to support you in finding your inner strength in order to be fully present and informed throughout the process. Through our commitment to social justice work, we strive to create space for all people to feel empowered in their lives, in their care, and in the future for themselves and their families. We are dedicated to providing safe midwifery care options for those living in rural areas of Northern Vermont. “ I also noticed that Alison is representing The BIPOC PRIDE flag as well as a BLM flag. While she sympathizes with ‘minority groups’, she does not sympathize with a minority group of women that are abused. Why?? If she is concerned with social justice, then supporting and holding space for abused pregnant women should be an equal priority. What I learned from speaking the truth to Alison, is that I must LIE to receive the type of care needed for a homebirth. I must hide the abuse, in order to receive care! Doesn’t seem socially just! Women should not be funneled to hospitals because they have been abused! She is not the first midwife to turn me away due to this! In the past, I chose an unassisted birth, in place of the midwife backing out near the end. Brave women, you can still birth at home when midwives abandon you!!! Be strong!"
"I cannot imagine our first pregnancy and birth without the support of Alison and Heidi, both such knowledgeable and caring humans and midwives! There are not words to express our gratitude for their role in creating such an amazing birth experience and bringing our first child into the world. Vitality provides thoughtful, intentional, and personal care. We couldn't be happier that we chose this amazing duo and would love to have them back for subsequent births! It it amazing work that you do. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!"
"Alison and Heidi were the perfect midwifery team for my second labor and pregnancy. They both bring their unique skills to the pre-natal and delivery experience and they balance each other well. I chose to switch practitioners at each appointment so I got to know each of them and feel comfortable with them both. They were there to guide me through some early pregnancy stress/unknowns and were always available when I needed to meet with them last-minute for a check in and reassurance. I didn't feel any pressure or judgement about my pregnancy-related decisions, and was always provided with insight and evidence if I asked for it. I am four weeks postpartum from an empowering home birth and would definitely recommend Heidi and Alison to pregnant friends in the future."
