"I am a 2021 AT thru-hiker and all I can say is this hostel rocks! The rooms are clean, the bunks are cozy and the staff is freaking amazing. There’s a sauna, laundry and a huge living/dining space to socialize. I love that it’s very close to restaurants, the ice castle and of course it’s in the heart of the White Mountains. I definitely recommend staying here!"
"They are a great socially conscious hostel. No matter your identity they will go out of their way to provide you, and your dog in my case, a welcoming place to stay. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, nice beds and bathrooms, and a perfect hub for white mountain activities. Though I live 2 hours away this is my ideal place for overnight adventures and hikes in the region."
"I’ll admit I’m biased as I follow one of the employees here on social media, but I have pretty high standards and all so I was really impressed with…well, everything at the Notch. We rented a 2bd suite as there were 3 of us and wasn’t out of budget, bonus being private bath with designated water heater - hot showers after we hiked Mt Adams were perfect. Common rooms were great - TONS of amenities - clearly labeled instructions so you weren’t tracking down staff (though there were folks about all the time anyhow) if you had questions or wanted to make a purchase, cook a steak, or take the organic compost bucket out to the garden. Had great conversations with Philip and Eric - both knowledgeable and eager to offer trail wisdom - place was abustle with hikers of all sorts from all places with common ground and goals - the entire experience was just superb."
"My partner and I had a very good experience at this hostel. It's clean, well equipped, cozy and inviting. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the staff is really nice. Everything is clearly labelled to help you get around the hostel. The shampoo and conditioner were also of very good quality, which was a nice surprise. The only thing I would improve would be the quality of the mattresses, which could be a bit more comfortable, but they weren't too bad either. Maybe the owner could slowly replace them with memory foam mattresses when the time comes. This will definitely be my go-to place when I hike in the Whites."
"It was the first time I stayed at a hostel of any sort. I had taken a week to take my motorcycle around the white mountains and reserved a tent site at The Notch Hostel. The experience was very welcoming. The hosts were very friendly and the yard was very well cared for. Upon arrival I was given a brief tour of the hostel and description of the many services provided. The many hikers that came through were all very friendly as well."
