Apple Island Resort 71 U.S. 2, South Hero, VT 05486

"Stayed here from Saturday August 26th to Wednesday August 30th 2023 with my family. We checked in at around 4:31pm, after a bit of a long drive. We got there, and was very disappointed that they did not have cable hookup. My family likes to watch the news for the weather, plus i wanted to watch the last episode of Claim to fame which premiered monday. Anyways also we arrived and they put us near the lake, and we are a long trailer, and was concerned on where to park our car. So they moved us in a spot that worked. We also got a little refund as well. in the front, there is a general store, and they also sell sandwiches and coffee. On August 29th, i brought a lake champlain shirt there, and the people inside were very nice. Overall it is a small campground, and it does look like some kind of trailer park. However, it seemed pretty quiet and everyone seemed friendly that we seen. They also have a pool but did not go in the pool as it was kind of cool. Also there is not much things to do in vermont, including close by. Although we did stop by the blue paddle bistro. Don't think we'll visit vermont again, but this was a nice quiet campground."

"We stayed 1 night. The Store/Deli was well stocked and the food was excellent and the employees were super friendly, We played the Par 3 Golf Course in good condition the Pro Shop was also well stocked and friendly. The bath house was just OK and a bit of a walk from the sites. The CAMPGROUND itself was not great, gravel skinny sites, fire pit and picnic table in the grass and the roads are dirt and would be a muddy mess if it rains. The views were awesome of the Lake. Overpriced based on the sites and lack of maintenance to the grounds."

"Apple Island is a great campground in a very nice area of Vermont. On Lake Champlain and close to Stowe, Burlington, and other nice cities. The views from the campground are what drew us to stay here. The price of the nightly stay is the only reason I did not give 5 star. To me, the price is high for just views and a clean campground. For this price, I would expect concrete slabs at each site and there were only stone blocks which were not real ideal. Besides that, the campground is very well kept and very nice overall. Just not $130-$140 a night nice without having a site that is Prestine."

"Nice trailer park. Not a very good campground! My wife and I stayed at Apple Island Resort in May 2023 in our 5th wheel trailer. The campground map looks very large with many sites in 3 categories. However, THIS IS A TRAILER PARK with some campsites. (see below) The majority of the park (70%?) including almost ALL of the “silver”, or lower priced sites, have permanent trailer homes on them. With decks and additions and sunrooms and brick or stone walls, around gardens, parking spaces, etc. For the most part the trailer park is nice (although there are a few that are run down and need A LOT of work!) When we were led to our site, our reaction was immediately “We are camping in someone’s back yard in a trailer park!” We were told that the site we were assigned that it was long enough for our 5th wheel trailer and pick up. Not even close. Had to park truck on grass. Luckily we had no rain, but there was torn up grass/mud in our site from the last time there was rain. There is an area for camping, It is a large field (NO trees) BUT the sites are set up for class A, B, or C RVs to pull into the site. THE UTILITIES, INCLUDING WASTE DRAINS ARE ON THE WRONG SIDE for a trailer! None are pull through sites. This “resort” should advise that they do NOT ACCOMMODATE any RV other than a Class A, B or C. Bath house in our area was a bit old but was very clean. But it is probably rarely used as most people use the bathrooms in their house or trailer. (like us). It was so unused, that the grass around the bath house was well over 1 foot tall! NOT PRETTY! When I made the reservation, I was advised to pay a $30 LOCK FEE, so that we would not be camping next to the golf course. HOWEVER, there are NO transient campsites within 1000 feet of the golf course! WHAT A RIP OFF!! The employee was nice, but knows nothing about the property!! When I complained to the manager, he said he would refund the $30. I NEVER RECEIVED THE REFUND!! Somehow, this “campground” received a 10/10/10 from Good Sam. My wife and I camp 40 to 50 days a year. Have been camping for over 40 years. We have camped from Nova Scotia to Florida in the last few years. We have never before been the least bit disappointed with a Good Sam rating. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME AND BOY WAS IT WRONG! The facilities may not be a 10, but they nice. The restrooms were clean (see above). The appeal? NOT A 10! MAYBE A 4! We had come from a campground in New Hampshire that was rated an appeal of 8. Next to a river. Large pine trees. Quiet. MUCH nicer that this. Note that the website states the the resort on on Lake Champlain. It sort of is, but it is across the main highway with NO SIDEWALK access. You have to drive or walk along the shoulder of the highway. There is NO beach as shown in the photos. In fact, the photos only show about 30% of the resort, if that. BOTTOM LINE: Only camp here if you have a class A RV. Staff is friendly but not well trained and are VERY UNINFORMED about camping and the campground area. (One person did not even know what a 5th wheel trailer is!?!) Try to verify anything you are told which is not in print or online! WE WILL NEVER CAMP HERE AGAIN!"

"We just got back from 5 days at Apple Island Resort. It was wonderful. My sister and I were able to get two spots next to each other which was awesome. Everyone working there was knowledgeable and helpful. The general store is well stocked with regular items and some Vermont goodies to take home. The park was well maintained but still rugged and beautiful like the rest of the area. Spectacular views of lake Champlain on two sides. I don’t know if anything beats sunset on the lake. We rented a pontoon for the day. The staff at the marina were also so helpful. All paperwork was emailed to me beforehand so I could have it ready. The staff seemed to know the lake well and told of us of some good spots to fish. The pool was incredible and beautifully maintained. We visited in the middle of June and the park was pretty quiet. All the people who camped around us were super respectful and friendly. The resort is across the street from the lake/marina but the park is up on a hill so the street isn’t bothersome. There aren’t too many trees in the resort itself so it’s not shady but the breeze keeps it cool. If you’re looking for a base camp to tour the lake Champlain area or just to sit and relax with amazing views of lake Champlain this is a wonderful place to go."
